Defence confidence in Hemings

Noticed last night that the defence appeared to have no confidence in passing back to the goalkeeper. Several times Beccles kicked the ball for a throw in or corner where it was easy to pass back to the goalie. Also no short goal kicks.. Hemings must gain the respect of the players in front of him pretty quickly .

Beckles making odd decisions isn’t a new thing. He’s been doing it for 3 years!

Kicking is the one thing, so far, that Hemming seems to do well………he can kick it quite some distance.
Once again, he didn’t have a shot of any note to save, Millwall were that bad.

Hemmings is, dare I say it, elite at hoofing it
The fact it usually leads to the opposition regaining possession is another thing

Yeah, it was pretty obvious that the defence was shielding him at all costs. Hopefully, time and a few results will help his confidence grow. I can't see the defence being able to maintain the tempo they showed last night for a whole season - deffo all hands to the pumps.

Eh? They passed back to him loads. Beckles did some great, no-nonsense blooters into touch early on but after that it was Passback Central.

Hemming attempted 32 passes last night, joint 3rd highest in the team after James and Beckles:

The positive for hemming last night was that his distribution was generally ok. Don’t remember many balls kicked out of play by him

People (who were probably watching on tv) trying to make an issue where there was none.
Unlike online, the away supporters last night sang Hemmings name as much as anybody's name to show him a bit of love and support. If I were Hemmings then I would have been feeling the love last night.

Agreed but you fail to give enough credit to us for that. One of the problems we have in evaluating Hemmings properly is that he's faced no examination whatsoever. Neither Birmingham, Bolton, Charlton or Newport gave him a thorough test. Ritchie alluded to something along those lines in his interview last night. As a defensive unit we have been very very good so far this season. Long may that continue.

You should watch him warm up. He hits the man 1 in every 10. His kicking is sh*t

But is anyone going to defend your spelling of his name? I doubt it

No you’re totally right
Our defence as a unit has been excellent and as you say, Hemming has had no decent shots of note to save, that’s what makes it even more frustrating

Have we considered supporting Hemming? He's got a clean sheet, now lets see him get another.

Well, for better or worse he’s now our keeper for the season . We’ve got to get behind him and support him. We might then get to see the keeper the club thinks he is.

For me, and it’s not his fault, he just hasn’t been properly tested yet. As said above, our defence has been playing well and has shielded him by and large apart from the Bolton “pea roller” and the late shot at Charlton.
Wonder if RW will give Howes a game against Arsenal U/21s or retain Hemming hoping he continues to build his confidence.
