Season ticket renewal
A cynic might think that the early season ticket renewal deadline was due to the owners knowing full well that they had no intention of forking out on players this summer. Knowing that this would negatively impact season ticket sales they foisted an unreasonably short deadline on us.
More than happy to have my theory proven wrong with a few blockbuster signings over the next few days but if we start this season with Charlie Kelman and a few unknown loanee kids as our main transfer activity then I’m claiming dirty tactics from those at the top.
Less than a month to go until season starts and we have a much depleted squad (in terms of depth and quality) compared to last season.

Re: Season ticket renewal
Nah.
With the squad we've got we'll be starting in a better position than in some of the 56 seasons I've supported the Os.
To be an Os supporter, is to be happy when we've reached the minimum number of points to avoid relegation.
Challenging for promotion again - wow what a concept! (with apologies to the late, great Robin Williams - "Reality, what a concept").

With only 3 or 4 weeks left to sign 6 players we had better start pulling our finger out

I think there is a a lot to be said about your theory. We were promised that signings would not be left late, it looks that is another promise broken.Blockbuster signings, I won’t hold my breath. The Reverend wrote: ↑Fri Jul 12, 2024 4:36 pm A cynic might think that the early season ticket renewal deadline was due to the owners knowing full well that they had no intention of forking out on players this summer. Re: Season ticket renewal
Do people really hold off on buying a season ticket on the basis of what signings may or not be made during the summer window ?
I would have thought it would have more to do with how the team have performed over the previous season(s) and seeing that in last 2 years we have been promoted and then had our highest lge finish for god knows how long then if they can afford it they would buy one.

Re: Season ticket renewal
We couldn't compete for El-Miz and it looks like we can't afford to meet St Mirren's asking price for Boyd-Munce . Whoever we sign they certainly won't be blockbuster . To be fair to Nigel he didn't say they would be blockbuster but he did say we would be excited . Sorry to say that at the moment I feel underwhelmed . Like I said before , it would have been better if Nigel had stayed quietPoundhillO wrote: ↑Fri Jul 12, 2024 7:10 pmI think there is a a lot to be said about your theory. The best deals don't necessarily give you the best players as we saw in JanuaryRedDwarf 1881 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 13, 2024 9:51 amBut do we always get the best deals ? Re: Season ticket renewal
Yes, well unfortunately Dwarfy today wasn’t one of those days. Moncur came on as a sub at HT , didn’t do much, and was hooked with 15 mins to go. I really want George to do well but I feel Galbraith is well in front of him now.RedDwarf 1881 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 13, 2024 3:11 pmBy all accounts Moncur has lost weight and on his day he's very good .BiggsyMalone wrote: ↑Sat Jul 13, 2024 3:09 pmWe already have George MoncurSki Sunday wrote: ↑Sat Jul 13, 2024 11:46 am

Moncur looked as heavy as ever today and miles off the pace, sadly. Galbraith will be our 10 this season.

Maybe not a massive one initially but the fees do rack up if you want to keep them if they turn out to be good.

Re: Season ticket renewal
I do get the impression that the club know there's some big names in teh league this year and on that basis are not going for it. I believe they are doing a "Stevenage" and saving money for a push once we have a more realistic chance of doing something. The Reverend wrote: ↑Fri Jul 12, 2024 4:36 pm A cynic might think that the early season ticket renewal deadline was due to the owners knowing full well that they had no intention of forking out on players this summer. Hope I'm proved wrong but the signings are not coming thick and fast and if the rumours are true that Ling junior is coming back then that's me done

There is always big teams in League 1. Maybe a few more than normal this season, but if we are waiting for there not to be any we will have a long wait

Re: Season ticket renewal
No chance of there being no big teams in the league, but with the likes of Birmingham City having a player budget of £20m, Barnsley having a weekly wage bill of nearly £80k, and teams like Bolton, Blackpool, Charlton, Peterborough, Reading who now start without points pen. Thats without your Burtons and Wrexham who will both be a forceStory of O wrote: ↑Mon Jul 15, 2024 1:08 pm There is always big teams in League 1. The league is tough this year (Richie's words not mine). I wonder if they are holding back so we could possibly go out and spend next season when the league looks more competitive for us.?
