It goes to underline the importance of getting our summer transfer business done correctly when we get around to doing it

What makes Charlton a hard start? We finished 5 places above them last season. Birmingham have just been relegated so I doubt they will hit the ground running.
Just because a club is “big” it doesn’t mean that they are “good”.
Bolton is the only properly difficult one there.

Tough start but I would rather play the big boys early.

Hate that it’s a 17:30 start. So non-first match of the season to not have a 15:00 ko.
Modern football and the television that ruined it at its finest.

Agreed that its a tough start but the best time to play these teams is at the start when everyone is fit and we have a full squad to pick from. Some of the bigger clubs, that come down will still be finding their feet in L1

Charlton was last season.

That is a very tough start, Aug/sept will be very hard, but L1 this season will be much harder than last season.
But it’s great to be playing in L1 v these big name teams, it’s where we want to be, bring it in

Charlton whooped us at their place and was a tough game at home. Birmingham will be looking to go straight back up and will bring a large, noisy following.
It’s a tough start.
Agreed with others, need to get our business underway so newbies have a chance to get fit and gel with the squad, not having to do both during the season.

First 2 months look very challenging but we're going to have to beat some of these sides if we want to have a hope of making the top 6. Over to the Recruitment Committee...

I hope Bolton play as badly as they did at Wembley . If they do I would quite fancy our chances .

In theory yes but remember last season we started the season with two players already injured . Agyei and Drinan

Charlton certainly did NOT whop us at their place. They held on grimly for a 1-0 win and celebrated like they had won the league.
It will be a tough game there early season again

I agree . Apart from existing players renewing their contracts we still haven't signed anybody yet . We still don't even know who our goalkeeper is going to be . I don't know if that's down to Lingy or not but whoever it is needs to pull their finger out .

It was men against boys - they whooped us. We looked like we didn't believe we deserved to be playing them. It took us 4/5 games to get any semblance of belief.

Wonder if we'll give Birmingham the West stand again.
Result for me I'll get the Wrexham and Exeter games

Yep but unfortunately TV money talks and we hopefully will get a good fee for this game.

This is an unbelievable tough start
We play the favourites & second favourites in the first 3 games, and Charlton have spent heavily in the summer in order that they will also be right up there.
We couldn't have had a tougher start, and I can see us with 0 points after those 3 games, meaning we'll be playing catch up

My first reaction was the same as last season - all the clubs seem bigger and more established. That said, it is also true that we finished 11th last season, will have a capacity of 9K and have a great manager, so we will be competitive again. It was easier in the NL and L2, but rather be a medium fish in L1 any day...
We will need to recruit well - and actually a tough start might focus the recruitment committee's thinking...
