I thought this was about O'Neill. Worrying rumours that other are after him. Of course that's always the case with any player, at least he's under contract until 2026, so if we sell him at least we'll make some money.

It's not an argument about letting him go, rather whether he would be happy staying to be that versatile squad player as opposed to first name on the team sheet in any particular position.

That all depends on what offers (if any) come in and how choosy the player can be as a result

If we want to be pushing top 6 next season there absolutely needs to be. Even within the squad this season there were 3 players for that role, unfortunately 2 of them in Drinan and Pigott were miles off the required standard.
Agyei was here as a winger initially, I believe. Drinnn was here as a striker, Piggot possibly here as a 10 listening to Richie’s early interviews. We need players that can play a number of different positions across the front line.

We won’t have 2 top L1 strikers competing for the number 9 role.
We could have two top L1 strikers if only the owners would invest more. What could possibly go wrong?
Assuming we can move on Pigott that frees up the best part of £7k a week in wages which should be plenty to get decent quality and keeping within the existing budget.

Agyei being the other one as he is indeed, quality

Indeed he came in replacing Smyth, though it could be argued at this point Graham fits that role more at this point.

As seen in pretty much all the games Agyei doesn't play, we need someone who can lead the line and finish consistently. It can't be Agyei for 46+ games and RW himself has said he's after a striker this summer so recruitment team needs to go out and get what he wants

No, in the region of £4k and Drinan £3k or thereabouts hence combine both for a nice chunk of cash to play with
cockhat wrote: Fri Apr 12, 2024 7:53 pm GSHAW, Pigott £7000 per week! What planet are you on?
Read closely, Drinan's wages already freed up as he wasn't replaced added to Pigott's if we can move him on.

The front 6 for next season:
Agyei
ONeill
Graham
Theo
Piggot replacement
Forde replacement
Ruel

That’s 7 players for 6 spots - maybe Ruel will have to make way after all?

(There’s an argument both ONeill and Ruel could do a job at 10, ONeill is definitely cute enough to play there and has a habit of scoring goals).

You make no mention of Theo Archibald who should hopefully make a good recovery from his ACL knee operation, far too early yet to be writing off Theo ! As to 7 players for 6 spots, well for a start, Graham has a long history of various injuries when at his other clubs and Agyei has missed most of this season down to different sorts of injuries, so don't expect all the players you listed to be fit and available for selection week after week of the whole season, that just does not ever happen, players are regularly unavailable to play down to many reasons including illness, injuries, lack of form and of course suspensions and also for other personal reasons! . Lastly. I rated Hector from the first time I saw him play quite a few seasons ago when the Os played Harlow in a pre-season game against Harlow, he looked a class young player. Unfortunately many Os supporters on both forums never really took to him ( Tuffers especially so ) they did not take it in that he was a young talented player who needed time to grow. Many thought ( Tuffers especially so ) that we had got by far the best of the bargain by selling Hector and using the transfer money to buy George Moncur ! IMO It was to best move personally for Hector to go to Peterborough and he is maturing a lot as a player since going there.

Context got lost in the thread of quotes earlier on, fair point.
Pigott roughly £4k, Drinan roughly £3k was what I was getting at should get something decent if we can move the former on
Rubex Kube wrote: Fri Apr 12, 2024 11:16 pm O'Neilll has already taken Drinans wage, so what are you going on about?
a) no he hasn't, that signing was happening regardless of Drinan as club needed wide players after the Graham injury
b) had the striker signing not been messed up that would've been the Drinan wage replacement so that wage is currently being "saved"

However you want to try and twist it the squad is a quality striker short of where it needs to be. Richie knew that hence why he wanted said player in January.

It was, we sorted our appalling midfield getting both Moncur and (more importantly) El Miz who did the job right away and got us a League 2 title.

The difference Peterborough have to us is they have a large enough squad and resources to be patient developing a player slowly, we needed the finished product straight away to get us promoted.

I'd much rather be an L1 side and have sold a potential talent early than stay a League 2 side and sell on a fully developed talent for a (usually disappointing) fee

You make some good points but Moncur has been a big disappointment this season and another season of his contract yet to run on high wages so needs to get fit and perform next season to avoid being a ''one season wonder'' Plus as I wrote before, some fans on both forums were non stop picking fault in Hector as soon as he got in the team, its hard for a young Os player to progress here ( as in many other football teams and even in business firms as well ) Sometimes its better to move onto a new football team or business firm and grow afresh !

You're moving the goalposts every time you speak. At the start of the window Wellens clearly stated no new players in as the budget was used, Thompson & Drinan went out & Cooper & o'neill went fully on the wage bill. You clearly said " get Pigott out & we have 7k to play with". Just admit you were wrong.

I take it you didn't watch the one where he discussed how we were signing a striker but missed out for being too slow, then had another one lined up but buying club pulled out?

You've missed out we freed up Turns wage to get a striker in, that was said in the interviews too so there is 1 player worth of wages unused.

Yes he's been a huge disappointment this season, it seemed in theory League 1 would suit him as a more technical league but his fitness levels just aren't anywhere near the level required. Will be interesting if club persists with him or tries to move him on come summer.

Still preferable to paying full wages for someone who is offering practically nothing. Pigott doesn't even make the bench today.

I'd like us to try and keep Shaq Forde . Probably a season long loan . Out of all those players only Pigott needs replacing . He might be a decent player for another club but he's shot his bolt at Orient . Yet again today 18 year old Edwards with hardly any EFL experience is starting instead of him . That say's it all really . Ta-ta Joe

It was published what Turns got from us. Edwards & Adijue free up £1400 a week. We only paid half Coopers wage before he signed permanently, I'll ask you a second time , do you know how the loan market works?

Where? Genuinely interested if there's a more reliable source of wage stats than TransferMarkt and similar sites

So in summary if you take all the moves into account

Released a full senior pro wage (Thompson)
Released a full senior pro wage (Drinan)
Released a partial pro wage (Turns loan)

Added a full pro wage (O'Neill)
Added a partial wage (Cooper converting from loan to perm)
Signed two cheap kids on loan (Edwards and Adu-Adjei)
Added a partial pro wage (Simpson for a month or two so we're ready if / when Happe leaves in summer)

Once the two kids go back that leaves you with a senior pro wage for summer as we'll still be a striker short in the squad i.e. Drinan's spot and O'Neill, quality as he is won't be playing through the middle upfront.

Numbers from here, the wage bill number adds up to what we were told in the club accounts, in absence of anything better going off those

Me too though I suspect he'll get a shot in the Championship next season having impressed with us this year
As to Drinnan and Thompson, well more than likely that the Os had to pay off all or most of the wages owed to these two players to cover the wages owed to them for their remaining contracts till the end of this season, especially so in the case of Adam Thompson to help in his move to National league team Barnet !

Still preferable to paying full wages for someone who is offering practically nothing. Pigott doesn't even make the bench today.

a) where did you get £600 from? Are you Mark Devlin in disguise?
b) Edwards and Adu-Agjei won't be here next season
c) Cooper was already here before January

Next?
It was published what Turns got from us
Where? Genuinely interested if there's a more reliable source of wage stats than TransferMarkt and similar sites

So in summary if you take all the moves into account

Released a full senior pro wage (Thompson)
Released a full senior pro wage (Drinan)
Released a partial pro wage (Turns loan)

Added a full pro wage (O'Neill)
Added a partial wage (Cooper converting from loan to perm)
Signed two cheap kids on loan (Edwards and Adu-Adjei)
Added a partial pro wage (Simpson for a month or two so we're ready if / when Happe leaves in summer)

We paid about 15 % of Turns wages £600 some local paper to Brighton, don't be trusting those figures. Vigs contract at Burnley is £350K a season so£7k a week roughly. The rest of what you said is more goal post moving.
