Boy, has this guy's life gone into a supersonic nose dive all because of a simple, if a little OTT, kiss, or what?

Slightly splitting hairs perhaps but over half of that 2 1/2 years is for the coercion afterwards, rather than the incident itself. Still feels a bit excessive though.

'Prosecutor's seek' is the important bit there, which from a very quick Google would be expected to end up as around 6 month suspended sentence.

..."still feels a bit excessive though". A bit excessive? It's just idiotic.

Why are you ignoring the two pertinent pieces of information here?

First pertinent piece of information:
* prosecutors are “seeking”. In practical terms, this means that prosecutors are understandably trying to press for the severest possible outcome, knowing that the defence case will be looking for the best possible outcome for their client, and the likelihood is that the actual outcome is a proportionate response to what happened

Second pertinent piece of information:

* it isn’t solely about the kiss, but about the coercion that is alleged to have taken place afterwards
