What happened. Was Sweeney waiting for Richie after celebrating at the end of the match?

Richie was getting stick off the vocal support in the terrace along the side at full time as he started to move toward our fans behind the goal. Richie then made a gesture to the stevenage fans and made as if he was lifting the championship trophy. Sweeney took exception and went 20 yards back to RW and grabbed him in a threatening manner.

That should be looked at by the efl.
Had it been the other way around RW would have been cautioned.

Today is why I love RW, just love his passion
He’s a winner & he’s ours
Don’t ever change RW
In RW we trust

I love RW’s passion but that didn’t look good today.

F that. We’ve had to take loads of stick from Fatty and his boys every time they pump us. If you can’t take it don’t dish it out. He didn’t call anyone’s mum a slag or say something racist. Just pointed out that we are the champions.

Overreaction from their player.
The whole club is built on winding players and officials up and they can’t take it.

This.
Sweeney should be facing punishment.

It didn't look good but not sure what their player's ban-worthy antics have to do with RW.

Fact is we don’t know what was said, but whatever it doesn’t have a good look.
I don’t like Evans and I think Raynor is even worse but Richie should try to rise above it.
I loved the ‘raising of the league trophy ‘ to our fans but this happened after the aggro with Sweeney.

So you liked him doing it but when one of their players overreacts in response it's RW's fault? Basically victim blaming here.

What was said? Nothing was said.
Sweeney reacted to Richie’s trophy lift. He should receive a retrospective red card for assaulting Wellens.
Credit to Ruel though for being the first one in there.

Sweeney should be punished for his childish overreaction and assault on RW, and given a 2 match ban.
Stevenage were beaten in their own back yard, and their fans, commentators, players and manager, should take a defeat gracefully instead of winging and assaulting RW on the pitch.
RW should be allowed to celebrate however he wants after winning 1-0 away to a team who were sitting 7th, the position we are chasing.
Don’t ever change RW
Some boarders even when we win still need to be negative, just get behind your team and back your manager.

Don’t like losing do they, we should have given Sweeney his dummy back
Guaranteed if that was one of our players or RW, they would be facing 3 game ban.
Exactly . Evans always gives it large after he's beaten us . Giving our supporters the Italian salute last season after beating us 3-0 and we were expected to swallow it . As somebody else has already said ." If you can't take it ,don't dish it out".

This whole faux derby narrative around Stevenage is properly weird. They are a small tinpot club who happen to be having a good spell for the first time in their history and are desperate to have a “rival” to make them feel like a proper club.
We already went through all this nonsense with that other tinpot club Salford. A “rivalry” which is now long forgotten. Same will happen with Stevenage when fatty Evans eventually moves on.
Honestly, why would anyone give a sh*t about Stevenage? They care much more about us than we do about them.

Isn’t it so often the way? Those that make it their MO can be very very fragile.

It’s not their first ever spell like this. They got in the League One playoffs in 2012, largely due to the work of Graham Westley, who was also a bête noir for Orient fans.
Our current issue with Stevenage has to be seen in the light of our longer standing revulsion with Steve Evans, which goes back two decades and includes the trauma of Wembley 2014. The fact that he’s at a tinpot club that shares his name just makes it easier to elide the two.

I have now seen the ifollow footage to add to what I saw yesterday.
RW was clearly having banter with the popular side where their fans stand, he was getting plenty of abuse so he did a little trophy lift just to remind them. Sweeney walked 15 yards back onto the pitch to confront Wellens and grabbed him - it took about thirty seconds to get Sweeney off of Wellens. Other than banter with their fans not sure what Wellens has done to be assaulted by Sweeney.

The club have to report this, if the referee doesn’t.
Take it to the old bill if the football authorities won’t deal with it.

Clearly my knowledge of Stevenage FCs history is not up to speed! I honestly thought they’ve been non-league fodder until relatively recently.
I think you’re right about Evans being the main catalyst for the current “derby” but I think the fact that Stevenage, as a tinpot club, don’t have any natural rivalries they are desperate to force one.

Also, Phil Wallace. Often forgotten that the bloke who nearly bought us nearly 30 years ago sees the Club he did actually buy being consistently ahead of us in the league for most of the last 8 years. It’s no reason for a rivalry, but he must feel pretty chuffed with how things have turned out.
