That's exactly the point. He wanted one senior striker to start games with one kid to come on and get some minutes and help out.

Failing to deliver a senior striker means we have to start one of the kids, or resort to Piggot.

Lingy f*cked up. There's an interview on line if you don't want to take my word for it.
I've seen the interviews, the selling club pulled the transfer.

Why? Because Wellens couldnt possibly pick a dud?
Of course he could, there's always an element of risk, but he certainly seems to have more of an eye for a player than others in our recruitment team. It is noticeable how much better and how much more successful our transfers have been since Richie joined.
Yeah a bit like Ollie O’Neil eh, oh hang on Lingy recommended him to Wellens.

It's always someone else's fault.

If that's what happened, you then go to no 2 senior striker on the list.

Oh, there isn't one.- Just get another kid in, that'll be fine.

I'm thinking out of the box here for possible reasons for that counter productive approach. But do you think it is at all possible they do it to save wages.

Alternatively, they may just be enjoying trolling a section of the support who don't agree with the club saving money.

It’s a pity he didn’t see the potential in Ollie that Ling did on this occasion so it’s not just one person good teamwork.

No it isnt our summer business was completed reasonably early until Drinan and Beckles got injured and we brought in Cooper, Forde and Pigott.

This is an interesting counter-argument to the list Top of the JES posts up. Particularly when both Pigott and Graham have been quoted saying how far off match fitness they were after joining close to start of the season.

With so many key positions in the spine of the team coming up for recruitment this summer it's vital they get pre-season together especially in worst case where we lose the likes of El Miz, Forde and Happe

Oh but it is…

Forde and Cooper were signed to cover Ageyi, Drinan and Beckles who were injured at Colchester 7 days before the season started.

Brynn was only allowed to join us from Middlesbrough after he had done two week pre aeason with them but the signing was agreed weeks earlier. Joe Pigott signed the day after he became a free agent at Ipswich. We along with about four other had been chasing Jordan Graham for some weeks he chose us and signed. Ed Turns could not sign for us before Aug1 as he was on tour of the USA with Brighton.

So what exactly is yout point, they were all signed as soon as they became available. Forde and Cooper signed out of necessity and were replacements for injured players. It’s sometimes us waiting for players to make their minds up which club to join like Jordan Graham.

HA making himself look even more stupid than ever trying to justify a non argument.

It’s not even a counter argument we got our business done early apart from injury replacements and Graham who was playing a waiting game to get the best deal. But even he signed before the season started.

All of which I pointed out in my post a few weeks ago.

Departures of Smith, Kelman, Smyth and only Agyei and Pigott in meant Forde was always required, especially given we didn't get a striker the previous Jan due to the CB situation at the time.

The fact we lost Agyei showed just how short we were in that area. We've only had a L1 quality striker up top for about half a dozen games this season which is just crazy really.

The totally ineffective and unfit Pigott signing doesn't need much more said. Panic buy when McKirdy fell through who doesn't seem to fit our system at all.

Those players may well have been signed when we could get them but the question is would faster business get us other options who then hit the ground running with a full pre-season?

One thing for sure, we can't be getting to September again with key players miles off the pace.

We had Drinan too but when your two likely starting strikers are injured (Drinan and Agyei) the week before the season starts you are always going to struggle we had other injuries too and the budget was all but spent, sometimes sh*t happens and our injury situation has cost us this season. The speed we get players in isn’t always down to us Turns and Brynn were released to us weeks into pre season and we also had to wait on Watford to decide wether or not to loan us Forde and Jordan Graham to make up his mind and sign for us.

This season we have lost, Brynn, Beckles, Happe, Graham, Archibald, Drinan, Agyei, Hunt Moncur and Sanders to extended injuries almost an entire starting eleven no one could foresee that.

It’s easy to criticise and you and others do - a lot, but situations change at a moments notice. For what it’s worth I think we will be pretty ruthless with our retained list and aggressive in our recruitment in the summer. But whatever we do it won’t be enough for some on here.

I think we’ll just have to agree to disagree here.

The only player signed before pre season started was Sanders. That is never going to count as doing your business early to me.

Don’t think so although I agree you have distorted facts to try and back up your argument.

Gailbraith signed on the first day after his contract at Man U expired as did Agyei from Crewe. How could we have signed them earlier?

OK let’s say some half truths regarding Brynn and Turns and Graham the first two only released to us on the day they signed but we knew they were coming to us We did well to get Graham he could have signed for 4 or 5 other clubs same with El Miz

You conveniently forgot to mention Forde and Cooper were injury driven replacements just that they signed after the season started.

If you can’t be subjective don’t bother.

You were the one who said we did our business early in the summer.

There may be reasons why we didn’t - some perfectly understandable as you’ve pointed out - but whatever the reasons, we clearly didn’t do our business early.

As a counter to you and others spouting that we always do business last minute/late crap - you really don't know how transfers work do you if you expect the club to report back after the close season and everything is in place, because most players are not freed from their previous contract until the end of June and many still on holiday.

It's the same crap as people saying we sign players late to save wages - it's absolute poo poo. Ling said something along the lines when a player didn't sign for us and he said at least I've got another weeks wages to play with - Some people are so thick they took it as gospel.

Could you please tell me who signed late before the summer window closed ? - excluding Forde and Cooper who were brought in to cover injuries.

100%. Sad, but unsurprising scapegoating exercise.
You can’t put the blame on Pigott, the fault lies with the club. Wellens knows what he wants from his players in the respect of how they play and what’s expected of them. A massive own goal (pardon the pun) as far as I’m concerned. This so called transfer process is the biggest load of rubbish as far as i see it,you only have to look at the last window debacle imo. Too many chiefs involved. Should be left up to Wellens and possibly his assistant to make the final say. With a club like ours you can’t afford to make that many mistakes as far as finances are concerned. Not only was Pigott a mistake but this new CB,the two children signed in the last window, Sanders has been on the physio table more than the pitch and Graham is a crock, that’s why other clubs never signed him. Sure we have signed some very good players but the right ones in the right positions ? We didn’t sign any forwards of note in summer and we haven’t got a really good attacking midfielder with an eye for goal. The club has to get at least 80% of its deals correct imo. I know many won’t agree with me.
The final say of who we sign is with Wellens and his staff end of. It's then left for Ling to negotiate with the player/agent/club. The striker signing saga was a cock up but sometimes it takes a chain of events at different clubs for transfers to go through my understanding is that the striker was all but done and his club pulled him out of the deal, he signed elsewhere not sure what you can do when that happens. Drinan travelled up to Carlisle in January to sign for them but they pulled out of the deal when he was "in the building" not very professional but it happens.

Pigott signed for us when he became a free agent at Ipswich and Richie wanted him but for whatever reason it hasn't worked out but tbf we don't get enough balls in the box - and he hasn't really fitted with our pressing style IMHO but any striker is going to struggle if they don't get the service. With due respect to the kids on loan they are making up numbers.

I think we will be aggressive in the market in summer looking for good young players and the odd experienced player but first priority has to be to find the money to sign Idris permanently.
You're making it look worse than it is.

You said our business was completed early when in reality, only Sanders joined before pre season started and only 5 of our 11 signings joined before the Spain tour.

You could arguably have said there are reasons why our business wasn’t completed early, I accept that’s true for some of the signings. But you can’t lie and say our business was completed early when it simply wasn’t.

The more telling statistic is NONE of our 5 forwards have scored in over 6 games who can play down the middle.
Forde hasn't scored in 7 games and Ruel hasn't scored in 6 games including 4 starts and two substitute appearances.
