One of the best players ever to represent the O’s, passed away today aged 75 after a long illness.

I watched Stan in an Orient shirt many a time.
Real flair player. Not many like him these days

Sad news, I was lucky enough to see him play for the O's. Brilliant with the ball at his feet.

RIP.

A fantastic player for us. He used to tell John Chiedozie where to run and put the ball into his feet with hardly any effort . RIP Stan.

Played a vital role in the Os mid 1970s London 5-a-side cup victory.
Thanks Stan (and RIP)

When I was living in Lancashire travelled to Wrexham to see us play. Think we lost 3-1 but Stan’s free kick made the trip worthwhile. Lovely player, RIP Stan.

RIP Stan, Remember him well, as observed above he was so good for Chiedozie, fed him wonderful balls to run onto down the right wing.

First time I saw Stan Bowles was back in the70’s, QPR had brought him in as a replacement for Rodney Marsh who they had sold to Man City. Not only did he play like Marsh but even looked like him from afar. Brilliant player.

Pity the two of them were not playing together as team mates in the same team.

As to Rodney Marsh ''His career was nearly over before it began…Shortly after his debut for for his first club, Fulham, in 1963, Marsh scored the winning goal in a match against Leicester but collided with the Foxes’ John Sjoberg in the process. It was a collision so bad that Marsh suffered a broken jaw and skull and also left him permanently deaf in his left ear. Though doctors feared he would never play again, Marsh eventually returned to action 10 months after the incident.

Remember him playing for us at Loftus Road,0-0 If I remember correctly.
The reception he received from the home fans, unfortunately only the one season
for us.
I don't know if him and Bloomfield fell out, but was sorry to see him go.

It was Ken Knighton who let him go. Saying well he is now 33! You wouldn't nowdays hear a Manager say 33 was to old.
I think Knighton wanted to make his mark when he became Manager and getting rid of Bowles was making a statement.
We also had just signed Barry Silkman and he was seen as the replacement for Stan.

I, too had the pleasure of watching Stan at Brisbane Rd in season 80/81.
I particularly remember a 4-0 drubbing of Preston in October. Stan was sublime in that match & although we were a 2nd tier team, he looked too good for us. We were lucky to have him.
The attendance was just over 4,000 which seems ridiculous now but this was not football's era in many ways.

Remember this game well. Stan jinked passed three or four Preston defenders and buried the ball in the net.
Even Jimmy Bloomfield who was not known to be demonstrative, ran on to the pitch applauding. RIP Stan.
