Any decent player would have retired on medical grounds, but not good old Andy Carroll, still robbing a wage. Though some will say can you blame him when clubs are stupid enough to offer him a contract.

Of course you can't blame Andy Carroll. It's his profession, it's what he does.

Carroll, 30, re-signed for the Magpies on transfer deadline day despite being sidelined after ankle surgery.

He had the ankle surgery last April and still has a month of rehab to go. Apparently he is on 20k a week if he does not play and a further 50k for each game he plays.
