After a penalty is awarded to Portsmouth.

What do you reckon, points deduction or forced to play behind closed doors?

Have seen many people on social media think that this is either funny, justified or not that serious. I don’t care how bad a decision or entire performance is, no official deserves to be attacked. It’s a thankless enough job as it is.

Ultimately the question is “who is responsible for controlling fans behaviour?”. I think their answer is twofold. Individuals are responsible for their own behaviour so the idiot chasing the ref deserves a lifetime ban from all grounds and possibly some community service/jail time (yes, I think it’s that serious). The club also has a responsibility for the safety of those at the match, which they have failed so they deserves a punishment. A financial one for the first offence. Points dedications & behind closed doors for further.

Also, is the club pay one of these rent-a-hi-vis companies for their match day “security”, which most clubs do, then that company loses its contract immediately as they are unfit to serve the purpose they are being paid for. A but like what happened to the thugs for hire at AFC Wimbledon.

Blimey just had a butcher’s at some comments on Twaaater. Nearly all in support of the ‘fan’. Very depressing!

I was sat next to someone yesterday who shouted he wanted to lynch the ref after some marginal call went against us. People call officials nonce all the time now. The amount of hate refs get these days is horrendous and not helped by managers playing into this pathetic sense of victimhood that fans feel.

The abuse refs & linos get from some people, over literally every decision they make is completely ridiculous. It happens at every game. There was a bloke yesterday doing his nut at the lino for flagging O’Neil offside when he was about 10 yards off!

I’m all for a bit of grumbling when a dodgy call is made but the relentless abuse that some people bellow for 90 mins is just ridiculous. Most of the time these idiots dishing out verbals barely know the rules of the game themselves.

Apparently the fan was aggrieved about a free kick not being awarded to them shortly before rather than the penalty decision itself. It's so embarrassing though, what kind of person does this?

I like that the fan has been given the chance to fully explain his reasoning.

Poor refereeing (and lack of accountability by the refereeing authorities) is to blame here. Even though what this guy did is OTT, eventually people who pay their ticket money need to know that the game they’re watching is fair. Nobody expects referees to always get things correct, but since the introduction of VAR - even though not in play here - it does create a sense that for the game to be fair, decisions have to be right.
Going to stick my neck out here and say that if more fans actually had the chance to tell refs what they think of them, it might encourage them to make better calls.
Unless referring standards improve, this will happen more, and rightly so.
Intimidation is maybe the only means some fans have to make their voices heard, and it’s just as legitimate as phoning in 606 or something.
No referee should be able to feel like they can make big calls without being able to look a fan in the eye and say “I stand by it”

He made two major balls ups in the first half where he didn't play the advantage when it was obviously on, and blocking a through ball that'd have had us closing in on goal. Also gave Theo absolutely nothing despite being manhandled.

But that's the thing, refs are no different to managers or players. They make mistakes. When you take a step back from it, they will never be the reason over a 46 game season why you didn't achieve something. It'll be down to players and management.

There are still some idiots on here who think that refs have it in for us because the EFL supposedly have a vendetta against us.

And tbh the ref threw his hands up and said my bad on both occasions. Fair enough.

I wonder how many of these "people" would have the nouse or the bottle to take up the whistle or flag and officiate a match. I don't think so because they would be so biased to one team or the other and then be banned from officiating because they would jump into the crowd and have a punch-up with everyone who critisises their decisions. Numbskulls!

Difficult job and being unaccountable doesn't help, if they were miced up they'd at least be able to explain decisions.
