Brexit!!!! The Unintended Consequences
I am having difficulty sourcing my Dulaglutide injections for my coping with my type 2 Diabetes. This drug helps with the processing of glucose as well as being an appetite suppressor. The lack of this drug is slowly beginning to kick in. It is not likely to be available this year. My doc is in communication with Basildon Endocrine team to work out the next move ( maybe a switch to insulin ). Some reports say this is due to Brexit, others say there is a private demand for dulaglutide for dieting reasons. But there are strong hints. that Brexit is the main culprit.
My friend has a far worse medical problem and she needs very high dosage chelated Potassium pills ( which would bump off you or I ). Again she is having a great deal of difficulty sourcing them. If she didn't have them, she would soon be in hospital on a Potassium drip.
Anyone else having difficulties sourcing your drugs ( & I don't mean the ones with sniffy noses ). I have the feeling this is a news story that is being " hidden "

Re: Brexit!!!! The Unintended Consequences
Feel for you. It’s just as well that the NHS is getting £300 million extra each week!
Re: Brexit!!!! The Unintended Consequences
Sorry to hear of troubles getting medication, must be stressful and worrying.
No problems sourcing mine (statins).
Do you think Brexit is also primarily responsible for the shortage of Trulicity (dulaglutide) in Europe and around the world that is widely reported?

faldO :- If you read my initial posting you will of course notice that I said that there is another possible explanation for the shortage & the " benefits " of Brexit is a sensitive issue. It is very difficult to elucidate who is being honest.

Yes I read it, you said "there are strong hints. that Brexit is the main culprit." And you titled the thread "Brexit!!!! The Unintended Consequences".Friend or faux wrote: ↑Tue Jan 23, 2024 8:44 pm faldO :- If you read my initial posting you will of course notice that I said that there is another possible explanation for the shortage & the " benefits " of Brexit is a sensitive issue. I just wondered what the evidence was for Brexit being the main culprit (of the shortage), given that the shortage of this drug appears to be world-wide.
It's no big deal though. Hope the situation improves for you.

Have you tried adjusting you diet to bear Type 2? I know so many people who have by simply doing this andFriend or faux wrote: ↑Tue Jan 23, 2024 6:37 pm I am having difficulty sourcing my Dulaglutide injections for my coping with my type 2 Diabetes. Dr Mosely is always writing books on the subject.
As for your assertion Brexit to blame, you headline it then row backwards responding above , utter nonsense. I have just looked on Diabetes UK website who state worldwide shortage and mention dieting. I think you should have referred to them instead of scaremongering fake news here? As for your friend and potassium I have looked on line and tons available , even at Holland and Barrett so I really do not know what you are on about.
We have left the EU why don’t you at least try and get used to it?

It's a problem.

Thankfully there is nothing happening in the main shipping routes right now that is likely to make the situation worse.

Even that article not exclusively Brexit , yes it is a problem, lots of problems in the the world at the moment. Demand causes problems especially people using medicine to stop them eating too much!Dunners wrote: ↑Wed Jan 24, 2024 6:45 am It's a problem.

The food offerings at the ground for example are a disgrace all that rubbish adding to the demands on the NHS.

I particularly like this line: "Pharmacies cannot afford to subsidise the NHS medicines bill."
32 paracetamol cost to the NHS on prescription - £3.40.
32 paracetamol bought in Sainsburys or Morrisons - 78p

Re: Brexit!!!! The Unintended Consequences
Looney Lenny why do you bother? You can be very insulting even though it is through your ignorance. I have been type 2 diabetic for 30 plus years. For the first 5 or more years my diabetes was controlled by judicious eating. Diabetes was rife on my dad's side of the family. All of them died young from heart diabetes related problems. I have never been fat. But unfortunately over the years I have had to take a wider range of medications. I find exercise rather than diet is a greater factor. That's why I walk my dog every day. When you are 76, it is harder to do an hours walk with the dog in cold & wet weather. 2 years ago I had my leg in plaster for over 4 month because of a broken knee cap. Including 14 days in hospital for bed rest. I tripped over the dog, so even healthy things can backfire. It was long predicted that Brexit would affect our drug supplies. The fact that Dulaglutide is a weight reducing drug, obviously has caused a surge in demand. Money talks.
Diabetes is not as simple as portrayed in the media. I listened to Teresa May earlier in the week on the radio. She was not diagnosed as diabetic until 2012. She believed that she was Type 2, but was incredulous when her consultant told her she was Type 1. He said that her body was now producing no insulin and type 2 drugs were having no effect. She had to go immediately on insulin.
As for my friend on Potassium. If you had read what I said, you would have discovered she is on chelated Potassium on doses that would be fatal to you or I. Such things are not available over the counter. In fact when she was first diagnosed with Gitelman's Syndrome, I had to school her with how to handle medics, as they are unaware of the high dosages she requires and they get scared at prescribing such drugs. Read about it, it is weird, one of the symptoms is crisp munching.
Please do not dis people for your entertainment. They might know a lot more than you do.

42p in my local Sainsburys. I might bid for an NHS contract, buy every pack off the shelves at Sainsbury's and then sell them on at £3.39, undercutting the competition. Scaled up across the entire NHS I reckon I'll save the tax payer £millions and should be in for an OBE at the minimum.StillSpike wrote: ↑Wed Jan 24, 2024 9:07 am I particularly like this line: "Pharmacies cannot afford to subsidise the NHS medicines bill."

And to think Boris & his Brexiting friends were saying there would be £350M a week available for the NHS after Brexit and they were believed.

Re: Brexit!!!! The Unintended Consequences
Top tip: 32 paracetamol cost the same as 16 since the self-checkouts can't tell the difference in weight between 1 packet or 2.

Even if the 'have you thought about eating differently?' suggestion was made in completely good faith, it still shows a deep ignorance of type 2 diabetes and the complexities of how it arises / persists in people.

One of them is a caricature spewing out offensive tabloid nonsense who is almost certainly just doing it to wind people up.
The other is incapable of interaction without resorting to abuse & misplaced arrogance, with no interest in actually engaging in discussion and simply wants to be told he is “right” by strangers on a message board. As evidenced by the multiple toxic arguments they have been involved in across many threads.
