Possession counts for nothing

If you don’t have or look like you have
an end product..
Wycombe were simply awful and certainly
looked like a side who haven’t won in 11
and yet we barely tested there keeper ..

Once again 10 corners for the Os and they
all hit the first defender, 9 points from the
trap door and as I stated a couple of weeks
ago reinforcements desperately required as
this lot ain’t gonna be scoring enough to keep
us up ..

Sounds like we need a set piece coach

I thought we totally dominated the second half . All that possession but we still couldn't score .What we really need is another winger .

people get way too caught up on corners. 3% go in on average and that's being distorted by set piece specialist teams who make this a big part of their game. It worries me more that there are so few in this team that have goals from open play in them

Lets have this thread after every game we don’t win.

Orient are exactly where everyone expected them to be.

I think we also need a No.9
Forde and / Or Agyei looked good out wide and of course we have Theo, but Ruel struggled to make much impact, and the less said about Pigott the better.
Wycombe were probably the worst opposition we’ve seen in E10 and reminded me of a ‘ poor Stevenage ‘ .
I suppose 4 points from two home games isn’t too bad, and two clean sheets is a positive.

Our priority has to be a 10 to fill the position Moncur has vacated. Galbraith or Ruel aren’t the answer.

But yeah, a striker and winger would be nice too, and not 20 year old Championship loanees but experienced players that will start games. Not sure our millionaire owners want to fund that, tho.

A lot of that possession was where it don’t hurt, playing it along the back 4 then back to Brynn. Wycombe happy to let us do that all day long.

We only have 8 more goals at this point than we did last season, goal scoring has been a long term problem at Orient. What is worse is the 31 goals conceded to the 12 at this point last season.

Nothing from ten corners again says it all, we are treading water in this league, just nicked the previous game. We need a goal scorer or we will be in a battle to stay in this league.

Not just our corners, our long throws are just as useless

But it would be nice to at least think we may score.

Interesting stats. It says 17% produce a 'legitimate shot attempt', but we're not even clearing the first man generally so we're not going to get anywhere near even that. Obviously I'm not a pro footballer, but I would have thought if you're backing yourself to take a corner that should be the bare minimum pretty much every time.

It blows my mind that pro players can’t consistently put a 30 yard ball in at head height from the corner.

Possession can count for a lot - if you're Man city.

Is the pitch at the training ground 5 yards narrower than the one at Brisbane rd ?

Surely it's as distorted by Set Piece unspecialists? If you took us out of the statistics it'd jump a couple of percentage points at least!

I agree with the comment that you at least want to have some feeling of threat. When the defence can pass the ball out for a corner without worry it's much harder to build pressure. Yesterday we played a team with a keeper / centerhalfs (thinking of their 17 in particular) that were clearly below par in terms of comfort on the ball. But they were above average in the air, so for them it was a win to get to reset their defence and get a breather.

Of course it's all a tad moot, how you'd disconnect our poor set pieces with the general poor delivery from open play and lack of anyone that can attack a ball I don't know. I feel it's more a symptom of our overall lack of talent in the squad than a specific issue itself.

honestly did any one have expectations that we'd be more than a mid table side this season which is exactly what we are 13th at just after the halfway point of the season. think a lot of you were spoilt last season.

I thought we'd be mid season, but I thought Stevenage would be below us, but they've been in the top 6 all season, and are still in with a chance of automatic promotion. If not they will probably be in the play offs.
How do you explain that then?

They're performing above expectations?

No, not really. So does that mean then that everything is ticking over just fine..

Not really the point though is it?

Of course, if you told any of our players to put a ball in above head height they could. But it would be ineffectual, floaty, or too long. They are trying to whip balls in which has a lot of room for error but is effective if you get it right. Of course, it isn’t effective right now but doesn’t mean they should just float in balls

They are having a fantastic season underneath an experienced lower league manager. There are also 22 other teams to compare ourselves against. 11 are doing worse right now.

If you gave me a choice between floating it into the box and trying to scramble / second ball it in, versus repeatedly whipping corners to the first man, I know which one I’d take. Particularly when we don’t appear to have any players who actually can whip the ball in well.

I wonder if leytonlaureate is keeping count, but we had scored from just 1 of about 90 corners when he posted his analysis. Must be 1 in about 150 now. May as well take them blindfolded.
