Hardly a surprise - was best priced 1/8 to win it.

No surprise at all.

K.J.T won a magnificent gold medal and came 3rd.

A loser wins S.P.O.T.Y .

People moaning based on sporting merit and not on lack of personality is a change for this board

But yeah, who really cares? I wouldn’t have known it was a thing anymore without this thread

Not caring about SPOTY is being up oneself? Can you give me a list of all the things I have to care about so I may avoid being considered self-important?

If you don't like something move on by & ignore it .
Saying
"Who cares"
Is just being a bit of an uppity little arse really.

Just my opinion though

I've never really understood it. How does one win a personality contest? Is it just the bbc picking some people they like then its put to a public vote?

It used to be done to reward sporting excellence.
Now it seems like you just have to sell lots of
GK jerseys

Losers and triers are are ‘winners ‘ at schools these days. The way the country is going. Let’s all be one big happy family. Absolutely pathetic to award her that an individual in a losing team.

I don't have a problem if people give their best & lose .
But to announce someone this year that should of been
2nd or 3rd last year .

Ronnie O'Sullivan never won it.
Doubt he's bothered.

KJT at 30 after yet another horrendous injury storms back for world gold.

Inspire young women by rewarding glory not taking part.

It's self-indulgent tosh. And yes, I am too up myself to give a toss about it.

I heard my Misses shout from the TV room last night,
‘WHAT EARPS!’

I thought a cowboy film had started

If you think this year was bad, wait 'til you find out what happened in 2009.

But those people already won their sporting events.

Mary won the golden glove, was an excellent individual in a team that just fell short, would still have inspired many.

This woke choice has debased the entire award and it makes a mockery of it. When you think that someone like Peter Shilton never got a sniff at it it is criminal when you compare his record. Utter travesty indeed. How can she even be on the same list of sporting greats such as Stirling Moss, Bobby Moore, Lennox Lewis, Kelly Holmes, Seb Coe, Henry Cooper , Mary Peters and Lewis Hamilton to name a few? Complete madness.

Phil the Power overlooked (again) in the year he retired, now that's what I call a winner.
Seems a rather strange choice this year, relative unknown runner up in a team that failed to make the upcoming Olympics.
KJT would have been a much more deserved winner, very strange voting choices.

The BBC stopped giving voting figures about 5 years ago. I suspect a few hundred votes would probably win it these days

Absolute mockery. I said to my partner, a few weeks ago, it will be a disabled winner or a woman. Not hard to work that out.
No doubt in a few years time no one will remember this woman. Political correctness gone made

Is it not determined by public vote? So that any accusations of wokeness or political correctness can only be aimed at the public?

“I said to my wife it’ll be a disabled winner or a woman”

So you guessed it’d be someone from a group that
A: comprises 50% of the population
B: has to achieve sporting success within the context of lifelong conditions

Wow, you really stuck your neck out there.

Anecdotally, playing football on Saturdays in seven a side, I’ve noticed that since the higher profile of the England women’s team, the daughters of the dads that play seem to come along much more often than they did before, and play in between games, and seem generally inspired. Anyone who can’t see that Mary Earps has been a very big personality and an excellent sportswoman is being a bit silly.

Sure, if she won “best goalkeeper in the world” with no context and no acknowledgement that it’s within her sex category, then by all means moan about that (even though it’s totally fair for excellence in the women’s game to be viewed as legitimate as excellence in the men’s game) - but she’s won Sports Personality. There’s literally nothing to be upset about here
