Ray Goddard

Anniversary of his passing 11 December, one of our better goal keepers if not the best. I have a photo but cannot seem to load it on.

Never quite sure why we signed Jackson who for me made mistakes that I didn't see in Ray.

Ray Goddard was a great keeper, John Jackson probably the best I've seen in an Orient shirt.

As good as Goddard was, Jackson was far superior.

Probably the two best goalkeepers I’ve seen playing for the O’s. A shame in some ways they were in competition with each other. I have to say though good as Ray was, Jacko was just that bit better.

Who remembers Jacko attempting to throw the ball out but instead throwing it away for a corner? Comical.

They were both quality keepers, Goddard is the first keeper I can remember at O's, he did suffer some back trouble if memory serves.

Re Jacko, am pretty sure I’m right in saying he took a goal kick for us at Bloomfield Road once, must have got under it somehow, and the famous Blackpool wind picked it up and took it back over his head and the goal line for a corner!

Petchey changed a winning team to bring Jackson in and it possibly cost us promotion.
Having watched the O's since the 60's I think our best keeper was Paul Heald pre head injury.
