Brophy

Has to play IMO. We can`t have two full-backs with nothing to offer while going forward. Widdowson was decent last season, but Brophy is better for at this level.

Brophy is good but always seems to want to take on that extra man etc I find him very frustrating

Final ball has always been his issue. Improve that and he’ll be one hell of a player.
On your point though, I agree. Widdowson is not a full back and never will be.

Totally agree. If some coach could "teach" him to play the ball at the right time, he could have played for Rotherham United by now!

You’re right about Brophy but he still causes plenty of problems with his pace and control. Every team has to have a pace man and he is ours. He needs to start most of the time IMO.

But it’s good he is prepared to have a go. Did well today I thought. Well worth persevering with. Maybe Widdowson for away games when we may not go forward as much.

Does seem as though Brophy deserves to be in the starting 11 but the formation doesn't quite accommodate him. Can't see Ross dropping Widdowson after his strong last season.

Widdowson does have a lot more league 2 experience than Brophy, and even spent a few seasons in league 1. I think they're both good options for this level, but obviously different players.

Even with doubts about his final ball it's clear that Brophy drives play much more than Widdowson.
I'd have him starting over him every time. Widdowson is too pedestrian and limited going forward. I'd take the small defensive hit of Brophy in there for the improvement to the team set up going forward.

Interesting but the small defensive hit we got when Caprice went forward got him scapegoated. But I agree, I prefer better attacking options.

Caprice wasn't as defensively reliable as Brophy. When he gave the ball away it lead to counter attacks and goals due to his lack of desire to get back. Also, Brophy is playing with a back three behind him so there is more defensive cover.

And Brophy is?

Sorry meant wing back. Brophy can’t defend but I think you accept that when you have 3 cbs

If we are playing three centre halves Brophy all day long for me. Go back to a flat back four and it has to be JW for his defensive qualities.

Ling and Widdowson are full backs, Caprice and Brophy wing backs. They all struggle in the other role. Judd is a compromise, average at defending and going forwards. With three centre halves we need wing backs, otherwise no width up front.
When Brophy first played full back he was awful defensively. I must say that he has improved immensely in this respect under Justin, and is no longer a total brush off when tackling.
Caprice out for a few weeks for Tranmere, comments on their forum

Gutted. Big loss for us
Big loss. Lot of our play last year came down the right & he was probably one of our biggest attacking threats.
Seriously, he will be missed
We will sorely miss Jake.

If we are going to use wing-backs on a regular basis, it`s not easy to see where Louis Dennis will fit in.

Kenny Jackett saw Dennis as a number 10, which is where he'll play for us.
Only trouble is JMD plays in that position too, so a little ( nice) problem maybe

Yeah definitely. I wonder about playing both of them in away games behind either Wilkinson or Angol and them wreaking havoc moving around and defenders maybe struggling to pick them up when running or bringing the ball from deep.

We played very well on Saturday; plenty of commitment to the cause. I do feel, however, that we need to move further up the pitch when we are chasing a goal (shouldn't we be most of the time?)...

Brophy flatters to deceive. Zero end product.
