He probably has to pull a few pints in the Supporters Club as part of his deal

Cambridge United's loss and our gain when we signed big Josh.

Arguably the most important signing the club has made since T & T have been in charge.

Makes me wonder why Cambridge ever let Josh leave ?
He was a legend at the club !!

Who knows Sid? I recall that when Coulson originally came here on loan from Cambridge it was pretty much on the basis that he needed game time to get fit following a lengthy spell out. He then played for the first six or seven weeks or so with us before he was sidelined with a different injury and by the time he got back JE was manager. The logical conclusion is that Cambridge just decided to move on presumably because of doubts about his fitness and the Os took a chance - which paid off handsomely.

He's a proper player no doubt. I can't think of one occasion where he has let us down.

Has never let us down and scored some vital goals last season, well worth a new contract.

I think our success last season was built on a strong defence, if we are to be successful this season Coulson in the centre of that defence is an absolute must. It looks as though he may be there for some time which is great for us.

I think with his 7 goals last season, he must be out most prolific centre half in recent years. I'm sure our most prolific defender of recent years was Lockwood, but what about centre half?

Baudry used to get a few, but I don't think he was as prolific as Coulson.

Yes your summing up seems about right, rather puzzling though is the fact that Coulson was transfer listed by Cambridge Utd in May 2015 when he was 26 years old, that is more than 2 years before he joined us on loan for season 2017-2018.

Gives everything. Loves his football, has an infectious attitude and brings out the best in those around him. If fans designed a fan favourite it would look like Josh Coulsdon.

He’s been a Colossus for us at the back. Marvin and Dan will learn a lot playing alongside him. A true Pro.

The only centre half I can recall at the Os who got many goals was Terry Mancini 1967–1971, 167 games, 16 goals !!
See how many Josh scores in division 2, might be somewhat harder for him to score than in the National League.

This is only a pure guess but maybe they thought he was too injury prone . Their mistake has been our gain.

Would have waited to see how he deals with being back in the league.

Come on, Josh is easily League two standard if not better .

He missed very few games for them since becoming first choice across 5 seasons. I don't think it was much to do with injury.

Reading their forum it does seem that he was a rock in the National League, struggled a bit with the step up, lost his place in the team, became surplus to requirements and transfer-listed. After getting his fitness back, they could have recalled him back into their side, but they terminated his deal to allow him to sign here permanently.

Perhaps at that age, being first choice at a National League club like us was preferable to being a bit-part in the League above.

We had similar here, John Mackie was a brilliant leader on the pitch and a great League Two player, once in League One his weaknesses were exposed.

Think he has been a great signing for us, considering the history I don't see what the harm is in waiting for a couple of months to see how he adapts before committing to another 2 years. Not as if a bigger team is going to come in for him. The likes of Happe/Ekpiteta are unproven in the League as well but it is a bit more important to keep them happy, considering they could be worth good transfer fees.

I completely agree. It would be strange to offer him a new contract now given there is no rush for the reasons you mention.

Would a good businessman not try to negotiate the best possible deal for the club, rather than the player?
