I was more than a bit disturbed to learn this evening that one of our squad players is expected to clean the changing rooms and wash down the showers at the end of each home match.

This seems very unfair on the player concerned

Alabi has to earn his money somehow mate.

Gotta give a bit more background to this. Not doubting what you heard but can be seen as making up fake stories which might negatively impact the team. What context was this told to you in?

It was at a Dim Sum restaurant in Neasden

So whoever it is aint gonna be playing Saturday ?.

I don’t pick the team but this person has to clear up regardless of whether he’s chosen to play by Rosso and Dan

Feel free to phone the club and ask them who has to clean up after the matches - I'm sure they'll tell you what they told me

Could be a cost cutting exercise. Perhaps we're getting rid of the physios and reverting to a sponge and bucket man.

Years ago it used to be a regular part of the duties that apprentice footballers used to do. Also cleaning the boots of the senior players and sweeping/cleaning the terraces after matches. Many young footballers used to also do apprenticeships in other trades so that they would have jobs to fall back on outside of football. Tom Finney's father insisted on his son doing an apprenticeship as a plumber, a job he combined with playing football. Tom Finney was a great player and had the nickname of ''The Preston Plumber'' !!
