Niche photograph

I can't stop looking at this photograph. Germany in the 20's was so pioneering. I feel without Hitler, the German film industry which was far ahead of Hollywood at the time, would have continued to flourish and German could have become the cultural language of the world.

Anyway, great pic

Yep, that “anything goes” decadence had something going for it, caught excellently by Christopher Isherwood. I do not like musicals much, but “Cabaret” is a top film.

Love the photo. Really interested in Germany and this point in time but know next to nothing about it. Never visited either. Inherited wariness, perhaps.

Have just started to re-read the Berlin stories

Isherwood actually later stated he regretted his approach to writing those two novels as it was from an outsider’s view on the rise of Nazism, giving too much humour to the narrative

Still loved Goodbye to Berlin (1939)
