We'll see how he gets on without being wrapped in cotton wool as Richie allowed for. Now time to get someone in who can play a full season without breaking down.

Said it on another thread but QPR are a bit of a mess right now and only managed to avoid relegation because of how good their form was under Beale up until October. They tanked from there onwards. Not that I'm bitter like.

A frustrating one as players like Smyth are very rare and he was excellent last season. Guess it's a positive for prospective signings that we're a club that can act as a good platform to earn a bigger move.

It's a choker, no good trying to hide it. And what's more a very hard act to replace.

I agree but in his first season he missed about half and last season and about a third . Good player when fit but is made of glass . That's why QPR let him go in the first place . Newsflash , he's still the same . Hopefully we can sign somebody good who can play most of the season .

If you can't recognise the hugely positive impact that Smyth made, regardless of any injuries, then there is no hope for you. He'll be very, very hard to replace.

1. I'd rather have him and see him go, but

2. He is made of glass. Of his 42 appearances, he only played 90 minutes 10 times and averaged 75 minutes a game. We managed his time a lot in order to keep him fit. QPR will not have the same luxury - and for them he may be a luxury/impact player.

BOL to him though. Was great to see him in full flight.

Ok. I stand corrected but to be honest it didn’t seem like that many games . Still injury prone though. Anyway of course I wish him good luck and thank him for helping us back into league 1 . Obviously a fit Paul Smyth will be hard to replace but life goes on. We’ve lost good players in the past and we’ll lose them again in the future. That’s just the way it is. Good luck to both Smyth and Vigs moving on to bigger things . It’s the players who are stalling and pissing about that I find irritating.

We absolutely did manage his time, of course, and Richie done it really, really well. But we had to as he was so important to us.

QPR will obviously have more of a luxury - he won't be anywhere near as key to them, he won't be making 42 appearances for them next season, they will not be putting the demands on him we did.

Doesn't that second link show that he started 34 league games and came off the bench just 4 times?

Just moving for a little bit more money and no loyalty to us despite reigniting his career. If that’s the mark of the man glad he’s gone.

Aside from the fact nothing's confirmed yet, how do you know it's a "little bit more money"?

If you read my post again I did say a fit Paul Smyth will be hard to replace.

Gonna miss watching him play. We will need players at Orient with similar attributes. I assume the scouting team knew this was very much a possibility and have lined up replacements.

We wouldn't be loyal to him if he was injured throughout his time here. He played a key role in getting us promoted so no ill feelings, he's not that young and won't want to uproot his family in search of a bigger pay cheque so it makes some sense. But as to whether it's a good career move for him in the longer term is another question. If we stay up this season, can see us playing against him in 24/25.

Key point there being the plural form. Need to replace Smyth and Sadlier now as currently only have Theo as an out-and-out wide player

I agree 100% with this.
I feel a little bitter. He was injured for so long of the 2 seasons he was with us, and we got him right, at considerable cost to the club, then he just goes like that.
He was offered a contract in January, which he dilly dallied over, probably because he knew he was going.
And to let him go for nothing seems criminal. I know they can go at the end of a contract, but it still seems not right.
We'll not get anyone as good as him.
