But woo hoo, it's all fine, that's most of the renewals renewed so everything is groovy.

Four out of four clean sheets in the Pizza Cup during the 2021-22 season, not too shabby I’d say and he made some terrific saves in those games. Two more years with the first-team squad in the meantime so hopefully he will be a more than adequate back-up ‘keeper.

So what's wrong with having him as a back up? It's not obligatory to moan about everything.

Last information I came across on Rhys Byrne said that he is 5'10'' tall, which is a bit on the short side for modern day goal keepers.

At least equivalent to Sargeant, probably better based on future potential, a cheap backup keeper for training and the plastic cup games. Realistically the #1 should play every league game so best spend the money elsewhere.

I was impressed with Byrne when I saw him play, wouldn't be surprised to see him the number 1 keeper by the end of the season

We will sign new players, already have 1 in the building in Max Sanders, L1 experience.
Byrne & Sodje are 2 young home grown players, who will only get better being around 1st team squad, Byrne back up for new No1 GK, and Sodje is one for the future.
You can’t have a squad of 20+ players who are all experienced, every squad needs a mix of youth and experience.

I reckon thats very old news. From what I could see of him on the pitch at the back end of last season he's a big lad.
I know nothing of him - as do most of us - so I will wait to see how he develops. Simon Royce in particular seems to know what hes doing in that department and he's decided Sarge would never be a number one. Ritchie must have backed him too, since Byrne got the bench position at the end of last season. Good enough for me.

From brief videos I have seen of Byrne playing, he is a brave keeper who comes off his line early to take on forwards who are through on goal and jumps well to catch crosses that come into the box.
