Can you recommend any UK holidays for families?

We usually do Cornwall or somewhere southern but looking for something within a couple of hours drive this year. Got any recommendations?

Snowdonia can be okay, but you cannot bank on the weather (which is the case for most parts of the UK).

I spent a week down in the New Forest in February, and could see that part of the country being okay to visit during the summer months. Not sure if the roads would cope with lots of cars driving into the region though.

Sheringham in Norfolk is very nice
The beaches up around there and Cromer are very beautiful - especially Wells-Next-To-the-Sea

Suffolk and Norfolk have both been great for recent trips with kid and/or dogs. North Walsham and Winterton-on-Sea in particular. Nothing going on there but v chill and close to the sea.

How about god's country, Yorkshire! If it's good enough for him , who could argue!

These days because I am a creaking door, I only go to UK and of course I have to take my dog. East Coast is dry but gets bloody cold winds off North Sea. Wales wet. North East even colder. North-West cold & wet. Scotland if you are adventurous, bloody long way.
My personal favourite is Isle of Wight. Expensive to take your car, but emptyish roads. Bit old fashioned and suffering lack of Continentals to do menial jobs because of Brexit. Kids love it if they like beach holidays. When I was at Ventnor last year they were warning about Weaver fish.
Last year I also went Isle of Man: cold, very expensive to get there. Only good if you like motor bikes & adventures.

North Norfolk, Cromer, Sheringham and further north through Weybourne and Kelling onto Wells, delightful.

We are going to try Dorset this year.

Second person I have seen mention this and I will third. Had a lovely couple of short breaks in north Norfolk. Lovely beaches, great woods for walking. Nice and flat if you like a gentle cycle. Even has all the tacky seaside stuff if you want that sort of thing.

Also, a bit further afield, but you could drive up to Girvan. It's possible that a boarder may have a vacant caravan you could borrow for a bit, so long as you don't mind the empty bottles of buckfast and scattered books on Trotsky and Frank Ryan littering the place.

How many times? I have never tasted Buckie in my life. Anyway Girvan is full up for this summer.

And I don't have any Frank Ryan books on account of being deeply suspicious of what went on in Berlin.

We had a lovely time in Shropshire last spring, visiting old Industrial Revolution sites and hiking in the Shropshire Hills AONB. There is a Victorian village at Blists Hill and a hands-on science and engineering museum called Enginuity that our kids really enjoyed. And you can take the Welshpool & Llanfair steam railway into Wales.

when in the UK we either go to Norfolk somewhere around Great Yarmouth/Cromer or the Isle of wight but I'd say that these places are probably best if you've got pre-teens.

Another one for Norfolk.

We went up to Cromer for 4 days with our 2 year old. Got lots of zoos and animal sanctuaries nearby, horsey beach had more seals laying around than I’ve ever see , Cromer itself was really nice and went to ROOAAR on the way back. Even C-Dif for the baby then later us, and a flat tyre didn’t stop us having a great time

Margate/Ramsgate area seems good. Easy to get to, decent beaches, amusements, arty and Dover castle. Chatham dockyard on the way. Mini railway, Whitstable and perhaps even a day trip to France

And where to stay in the Norfolk area?

Try Potters in Norfolk, right by the sea lots of sports and plenty of good quality entertainment

Just about anywhere along the North coast.

I fear that since my last visit to the area about 25 years ago, not a lot may have changed. I think I've found somewhere suitably middle class now anyway so not to worry.

I love Dorset. Stayed at Wareham last couple of years, a good base to explore from.
Bournemouth & Boscombe beaches are stunning, you could almost be on a beach in Spain if the weather is right. Boscombe has gas BBQ all along the edge of the beach to use free of charge and the beaches along there are pure golden sands
Really good pubs and stunning views around the Jarassic coast.
If I never had children living nearby I would move to Dorset, its that nice.

Whatever you do, don’t come to Suffolk. Dreadful place - just drive on through on your way to Norfolk, or anywhere else really. TIA.
