3-5-2 or 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 ?
We have played all those formations so far, but which formation do boarders think we should or will be using come August 3rd?

Tonight we were 4-4-2 first half and 4-3-3 second half. we should stay with 3-5-2 IMHO so we can pick our strongest players.

Re: 3-5-2 or 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 ?
Possibly JMD played well forward and Wright was pretty deep, It was hard to see exactly what formation we started with - whatever it was it was far better that 4-3-3!!
Re: 3-5-2 or 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 ?
Not convinced Ross knows his best formation yet.
The squad last season moulded into a 3-5-2 to combat its weaknesses, and we haven't really signed enough players to change that.
Out of all of these I hope 4-3-3 misses the cut, without another real grafter with quality in midfield I don't see that working, and full-backs will be exposed.

The formation will be built around our best players. 3-5-2 or 5-3-2.
Ling, Happe, Coulson, Ekpiteta, Widdowson
JMD, Clay, Gorman
Angol, Wilkinson.
Subs whoever is fit but will include Brophy, Judd, and Harold After that I’m struggling

Our best position is defence. I think we should start with
Sarge
Judd Ekpiteta Coulson Happe Widdowson
Clay Wright
JMD
Angol Wilkinson
If everyones fit that is (minus Brill who wont be).

Re: 3-5-2 or 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 ?
That'll be the lineup on the first day, IMO apart from Ling in for Judd.
I don't think anyone can say that anyone outside this has staked much of a claim for these spots.
At this rate we will just about get 7 subs assuming the people that missed out last night are OK: Janata, Judd, Gorman, Harrold, Alabi, Brophy, Sotiriou. In reality one of the attackers, most likely Ruel will have to lose out to allow Ogie on the bench, as there are no other defenders.
Strength in depth does not look very good to me. The strikers case is already well defined. Harrold and Alabi have looked a big step down from Wilkinson/Angol, and this is pre-season where there is a spot up for grabs. For the three midfielders and three defender positions, we only need one injury and then we cannot afford any more.

Wright for Gorman. Somehow forgot about him. Maybe a hangover from the Dartford game. Forgettable. Ling will get the gig over Judd. He will be considered best by Ross. But not by most of us.Disoriented wrote: ↑Wed Jul 24, 2019 2:03 amYou did say our BEST players, didn’t you?

Re: 3-5-2 or 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 ?
Agree, with the personnel we have it seems to be all we can play. Thing is we only ended up with it at through circumstance last season. JE had to switch due to our CM pairing not being strong enough and needing the extra player in there to stop that bad run we had when key players were out.
The side effect being it negates attacking threat, yes we made it over the line but by sneaking odd goal victories here and there with a lot of luck involved at times. Not convinced you can do that for a whole season without a plan B.

Re: 3-5-2 or 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 ?
Apart from the last couple of games where we kept it tight intentionally to get over the line, I'm not sure our goals for column was particularly affected when we made the switch to 5212/532.
I think it was away to Havant when first used, in the league.
Got any stats for it?

Re: 3-5-2 or 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 ?
Feel like we scored less, but become a lot tighter.
Still dont think we would have needed to change had we brought in a better centre midfielder. Effectively we benefited from there being an extra defender who could step out and break play up.

Of course. Your point being. Or are you just being stupid again. And there’s me thinking I pick the team, thanks for putting me right.

Totally agree re the missing centre midfielder we have still not signed.Apple Wumble wrote: ↑Wed Jul 24, 2019 12:09 pm Feel like we scored less, but become a lot tighter.

Happe also came into play though when Ekpiteta and Coulson were out and made himself pretty much undroppable, but was nothing to justify leaving those two out when they returned. Imagine it was a bit of both scenarios coming into play at the time, and as we still have all 3 plus Turley and the emergence of Ogie, 3 CBs seems kind of logical for us at this point in time.

Re: 3-5-2 or 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 ?
Agree. We were still playing with the same number of central midfielders. It was largely down to Happe playing himself into a position where he couldn't be dropped.Buddy Manucci wrote: ↑Wed Jul 24, 2019 1:53 pmTotally agree re the missing centre midfielder we have still not signed.Apple Wumble wrote: ↑Wed Jul 24, 2019 12:09 pm Feel like we scored less, but become a lot tighter.
