Now I'm of they opinion that the title is ours and obviously promotion too. But having watched league 1 I don't think we will get above mid table ,I hope I'm wrong but we need to get rid of the deadwood and bring in at least 6 more players to stand any chance of surviving the drop. The wage bill will increase,so can we afford to go up.

A lot of contracts up in the summer so we have the opportunity to strengthen.

We need 2 new centre halves alongside Beckles and Happe - Thompson and Ogie are both finished here, Turns and McCarthorse aren't ours - thankfully in the latters case).
We need 4 new 6/8s - El Miz will go back, Pratley and Clay will have to be replaced, Lydon won't be fit until 2026.
We need another 10 to challenge Moncur and give him genuine competition, something he hasn't had all season.
We need 1 new striker minimum, probably 2 - Kelman will go back, not sure what will happen with Drinnan and Ruel.
That's just the spine of the team, not even looked at full backs and the wide men.

I think our full backs and wide men are OK. keep .

Full backs - Hunt, James and Sweeney, yeah I think you're right, but still need 1 more to take it up to 4 players for the 2 spots.
Widemen - Smyth obviously yes, Theo yes but needs to up his game for L1, Ruel I'm not so sure and Sadlier will go back.
So will need incoming players in those positions as well. It's going to be a busy summer.

Defence is ok.
We must keep El-Miz and add a couple more for our midfield.
However, we need some forwards. They haven’t been able to score in League 2, so I can’t see League 1 being easier.
If we can get a goalscorer I think we can hold our own with the nucleus of the squad retained.
RW knows all this. I trust his judgement for summer recruits and players being offered a further stay.

Think we all know that there's probably only 8 or 9 of the current squad that could cut it in league 1. Think there's going to be a major recruitment in the CDM and forward area's in the close season.

Wonder if there are bids in already for Ogie? Has he been wrapped up in cotton wool to avoid injury, not to be seen again in an Orient shirt. Happe's long injury may have saved him from a higher up club risking a bid.

replacing players will be needed for League 1 and hopefully bring them in reasonably early as they will need time to bed in and give them as much pre-season time as possible to gel.

Agree re Happe. He was poised for a big move. Injury may just put some potential suitors off. Fingers crossed.

We should keep Ogie, one of our better players under Jackett and has bags of talent and potential. With some games he’s only going to get better. Real shame MCcart has got in front of him. Nothing personal but Shad is our player and should be playing. What’s happened to him?

Oh ffs, why have you started me off on this one again?

Load of poor teams in DIv 1. No need to fear the likes of Cheltenham, Oxford, Shrewsbury, MK , Accrington, Fleetwood, Burton, Lincoln, Exeter plus the other 3 going up from Div 2 (2 auto 1 play offs)

1 full back needed, I don't think James or Sweeney are league 1 standard starters (though Jayden may be one day if he continues to improve).
Hope Ogie can be brought back into the fold. Hard to say what will happen with Thompson, he'll have a year left on his contract and probably won't be offered the same wage as he has here due to the injuries, but may be willing to take a cut in order to start again. Whatever he wants to do we should support, definition of a model pro. If he goes, a 4th centre back will come in, probably either a loanee or Curtis Davies who's on record as saying he wants to play for us and should be a decent league 1 player.
Lyden, Clay and Mizouni will go, Pratley will take on the Clay role. So we'll need a new number 4 and a new number 6.
McKenna and Sadlier will go, so we'll need someone else to challenge Moncur and cover out wide.
Very easy to see Smyth leaving, which would mean 2 new wingers needed and 2 new forwards. Doubt we'd want Kelman again, Drinan stays as depth only.
If we can get someone decent in for the striker position, we should be ok at league 1 level. Had we had better strikers this season, we'd already be up.

We have come a long way, since the Beelzebub days, and just surviving and consolidating next year will be fine. The current squad is more than capable of achieving that IMHO. However if our better players or loanees leave and we get we don't get similar we will struggle.

Not so sure these days about James judging by recent perrformances. He seems to have gone off the boil since his injury before Christmas.

Might be better not to speculate as to who will be wanted or not - we want the whole squad focused on this season's final matches - and not worrying about their contracts. Will be plenty of time for the MB to discuss (all summer!) - and anyway it will be RW and co making the decisions

I’ll be happy to be mid table next year. Ideally, if we can get our key players to stay I’d like to see:
Vigs
Hunt Beckles Happe new lb (sweeney if he keeps improving)
El miz new cm
Moncur
Smyth
New st
Theo
Bench:
Byrne
James
Ogie
Brown
Prats
New cam

would be delirious with a mid table league 1 finish next season. We will need quite a squad overhaul to do it. These players (only counting players we currently own) can play league 1 - we'll need to complement it with more physicality and athleticism
Smyth - sign him up asap
Archibald
Vigs
Hunt
James (if he works on his 1v1 defending)
Moncur - will need to work hard on fitness in the summer break
Sotiriou (impact sub)
Happe
Beckles (for experience)
Sweeney, if he keeps developing at the rate he has this season.

The problem we have is that we need a centre forward that can suit Riches way of playing and be a prolific goalscorer. Not many players suit those conditions. Mac Bonne may be the answer
