Are You Enjoying This Season?

I feel a bit embarrassed to admit that I am not really enjoying watching the Os this season.
Maybe its just me, and I have become deluded as to what type of football I expect to see when going along to support the team
Admittedly I have missed several games due to having to regular weekend trips to visit my elderly mother in Ireland. But the 9 or so matches I have attended have all been low-scoring insipid affairs. When I include several away games that I have watched on the television I struggle to recall any match where we have truly dominated proceedings.
I really am delighted that we are top of the league but I can't help feeling that we could become the least convincing champions of all time, remembered mainly for our expert sh*thousery and unwillingness to try scoring more than once (especially when we are in the lead).
CF

Our shithousery was awful. It resulted in us regularly facing an extra 10 mins or so of added time per game, plus picking up huge amounts of cautions, red cards and suspensions.

I’m not enjoying this season at all.
Our early season form seemed unsustainable, and so it’s proven.

Admittedly, it didn’t help that Son’s form dropped off a cliff

Im also not enjoying this season.
I did enjoy it 'till about November, but not a lot since. Here's some of the reasons why not
1. I cant stand, I mean really cant stand what i call the fannying about, with the ball, in our own half. Where the ball is passed 3 to 6 yards, constantly backwards and/or sideways.....it does my head in. They wont push forwards, quickly, allowing the opposing players to all get behind the ball, and get organized, so when someone in our team finally tries to find a forward pass, its a lot tougher to find an opening. This happens time and time again.
2 The so called 'game management', which is a euphemism for time wasting. Jordan Brown got a yellow card for time wasting in the 57th min on Saturday ffs. We were playing the team second bottom in the league, a team that will probably be playing non-league football next season, yet we have to waste time with well over 30 mins still to go
3 Drinan. I cant stand the useless tw*t. Almost every time the ball gets to him, the moves over, and he loses possession. He has no football brain, no awareness of his team mates, no control, hes really useless, yet hes in the team almost every week
4 Been touched on above, but we are so defensive, so cautious in our approach . With the quality of many of our players, we should be far more cavalier. Id rather win 4-2,than 1-0, or 1-1 of late
So, thats my honest appraisal of how this seasons not really enjoyable. I get nervous as hell every game, which is doing my health no good at all, and I just wish it was over, and we are promoted.
Maybe next season will be more enjoyable

Yeah, definitely enjoying the season. Incredibly rare to go home happy after so many home games. For away games, there's something about seeing League 2 football via a stream which lays bare how poor quality the matches are - but we've only lost 4 in 18 away.
If anything, it's been refreshing to see us use a degree of gamesmanship to hold onto leads.
Those complaining that we're winning games 'wrong' - i.e. through patient passing, or relying on a fantastic defensive record - must have lost perspective completely. And basically suggests they won't be happy unless we're top of the league by 20 points, regularly scoring 2 or 3 a game, which will probably never happen.

I have to totally agree with your post, the fannying about drives me so mad , so much so that I am seriously considering not renewing my season ticket, it is not my idea of enjoyable football at all.The defensive play and lack of goals is not what I want to watch.

I've been going to Brissie Road for 54 seasons and this season is one of the most enjoyable, but 13/14 was the best, apart from 25th May 2014 which still rankles. So the answer to the BTT is - YES
COYOs - onward & upward

Yeah, can't wait for next season when we win fewer matches and get beaten more frequently.

25 May was great until the second half when Jamie Jones sunk us.

Yes.
Not in comparison to 13/14 and even 12/13 BUT I’d really fallen out of love with the club since our downfall and the succession of poo poo managers and football before and after Justin. Even some decisions by the new regime that seemed to be pushing the club in a weird commercial direction rankled.
But Wellens is a breath of fresh air. there’s elements to his character that rankle but I love his openness and honesty and we’ve signed some genuinely brilliant players in Smyth and El Miz. It’s not always been pretty this year but I look forward to watching when I can.
I think that if we get back to league one, for the 10th anniversary of the 13/14 season, I’ll be quite emotional after the last 9 years.

Genuinely surprised at the number of fans who thinking winning is everything, and quite prepared to be bored shitless, just to win.
I want to be entertained, thats my number one priority, and im prepared to win a few less games, if it means we play entertaining football, as opposed to this cautious defensive dirge

It’s dragged a bit after the Boxing Day 0-0 draw and hasn’t felt as fun since due to the calibre of performances. The awful weather hasn’t helped the match day experience, but can’t do anything about the seasons.
The early season performances were, at times, superb and the best I’ve seen since the Slade era.
Some of the wonder goals have been on another level - James on the opening day is without doubt the sweetest strike of a ball on the volley I’ve seen live.
Enjoyed seeing the East Stand busy / full. The club MUST do something short term to improve the facilities but it’s been great actually sitting next to people and talking to other fans about the match. For a long time I could be in a bank of 10 seats with my feet up and it feels the club is going in the right direction on and off the pitch.
Also great to see these new fans attending who have moved to the area and will be the next generation of supporters. The ones that sit behind me who have been bitten by the hipster ‘like’ disease can be a tad annoying but great to have new blood at the club. I only see that increasing with the mob from the TPS going down and other clubs being financially or ticketing wise unobtainable.
BR is an excellent day out and once Spring finally arrives it will be all rosey again, both on and off the pitch. Fancy a (narrow) win this Saturday to put Carlisle out of the picture.

So, to summarise, you're bored, terrified and angry by the way we play? Sounds like it might not be worth watching the games, in that case.

Was enjoying it a lot more when Happe was in the side and James was not in his bed. We looked rock solid and games like Stockport away were a joy to watch. Now, I always feel we are seconds from calamity and it’s no fun to be honest.

I was and unlike most I loved us being the shithouse team that would make cynical fouls and waste time down in the corner. We'd have a lead and manage out the last 10 mins. Along with the results it was so un-Orient, finally breaking the mould.
Season somewhat turned on that Northampton game though, leading to a disappointing January transfer window.
Wimbledon felt like a massive game and looked like we were back on track but recent weeks feel like we're trying our hardest to throw it away, which is so frustrating.

No, it's really sh*t. Wish we back in the good old days of Bullshetti, when you didn't know what kids would be playing week in, week out, and getting beat most weeks.
Ah, those were the days, wish we could go back to them.

==========================================================================
I view this 'fannying about' as trying to move the opposition about, looking for their weaknesses and spaces or get them frustrated and their forwards tired out. Just hitting the ball forward, even to feet, can allow the opposition to crowd out our receiving player and we then lose possession. There are times when we can move the ball quickly but we need to make sure we mostly keep possession of the ball.
