This is crazy.
Vehicle runs over cyclist who puts herself in the road but a pedestrian gets the blame?
Shouldnt the cyclist have been in the road anyway? Police cant determine whether the pavement is a shared highway, thats ridiculous.

A hateful women who had no need to get involved with the cyclist. Roads are a very dangerous places, it's looks like that pavement was very clear and the safest place for the cyclist. The pedestrian wasn't in any danger and the cause of death is clear, even from that short clip. Shouting expletives does cause people to act without thinking and unfortunately this caused the loss of life. It could have been avoided.

If the police can’t determine whether it’s a cycle way, then there must be ambiguity about usage. Aggressive gesturing that put the cyclist in danger is the pedestrian’s fault, yes.

Strange old lot in Huntingdon
I know where that is and if so its not a designated shared pavement.
Saying that its on the one way two lane ring road and not ideal for a cyclist.

Winds me up when fully grown adults are on the pavement. Especially when I have to move out of their way with a pram. It’s also dangerous.
Obviously awful that someone died. Don’t blame the pedestrian really. Just a very unfortunate event.

If you're cycling on the pavement, I understand as the roads are very dangerous, you just have to be considerate of pedestrians.
You dont veer into the road as soon as someone says something to you though. Were they wearing a helmet?

How tragic.
And how ridiculous that this has gone to court and no one can say whether it was a shared pavement or not. From the video it doesn't look like it was. And at the point they meet, where the lamp post is, there isn't enough room for a cyclist and pedestrian to safely pass.
Was there any need to swear? No. But other than that, I don't see that the pedestrian has done anything wrong.

Personally I’d rather a 77 year old was on the pavement than the road. As Huntingdon O says, it is a very dangerous bit of road for a slow moving cyclist.

Unfortunately if you are too old or too impaired or worried about being on the road , you shouldn’t be on a bike.
The article mentions the lady who died was partially sighted. That makes her riding on the pavement even more dangerous. She could have hit kids or other elderly people.

Hopefully the pedestrian will get a suspended sentence, as it does seem harsh. Tragic all round, especially for the driver who will now carry this in their head for the rest of their life.

This hits home hard for me, my old ma was killed crossing a road on her mobility scooter.
The motorist wasn't over the speed limit, but was very near the 30mph coming up to a junction.
My mum did misjudge it, but she was 88 and only going across one lane to the traffic island.
Had the misfortune of seeing it all unfold on cctv and the driver was still in a bad way mentally months later at the inquest.

Drivers shouldnt be going so fast that they cant stop or slow significantly if something appears in their path.

Does that not depend on how close they are when they appear in drivers path.

Pedesterian was waving her arm & bad-mouthing long before they came in to contact. Looked to be very aggressive. Cyclist appeared to be no threat to her. Cyclist was doing her bit to be environmentally sensitive. Aggressive people should be locked up for the safety of others

If its point blank you dont stand much of a chance, but you should always be aware of potential hazards, e.g. anything on the pavement may step out. A lot of drivers are oblivious, see so many speeding along daydreaming.

I should add that the driver in the cyclist incident shouldn't have been going that fast.
That road has at least three sets of traffic lights in fairly close proximity.

So sorry to hear this. Can't begin to imagine what that must have been like for you.

Is there anyone that can honestly say they've never once acted like a willy and shouted at someone who has caused some fairly minor nuisance? I hope any sentence is determined by the remorse or not the woman involved.

This is very unique incident, and terribly unfortunate in how it spanned out, however, at the end of the day my opinion is the elderly lady shouldn't have been riding a bike on the pavement, and if her sight was impaired, she shouldn't be riding a bike, period.
