New Striker...Any names?
Been racking my brains ( not hard ) trying to think of who we should sign as the extra forward that most people think we need. A young striker with a big reputation who could be a exciting addition, Troy Parrott ( Spurs ). Similar path as Harry Kane who signed on loan with us aged just 18. Irish youth international who has a big reputation and scores goals. That would be exciting!
I think we have a good relationship with Spurs but would they loan a talented yougster to a second division side? What does anyone think or could they put some names forward. No transfer fee and maybe they will help regards wages.

Would rather we use Sotirou from the bench this season than loan another striker in that would limit his appearances.AckneyAwks wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2019 7:41 pm Been racking my brains ( not hard ) trying to think of who we should sign as the extra forward that most people think we need. If he’ll play at League 2 level then Callum Gribbin. Attacking midfielder that was just released by Man Utd. Great player if someone can get his head right.

Re: New Striker...Any names?
I do think if we were to get a loan striker, he would have a great chance of jumping the queue and being third choice ahead of Harrold and Alabi, as there are reservations on both starting the games.
Let us not forget that we are also banking on Wilkinson coming good. Looking at his career thus far he is untested at League Two level, and short of his hot streak at Dagenham people would say his goalscoring record is non-existent. To some extent he is a bit of a gamble, much more confident that Angol will cut it.
Balance this with what the club need, we don't want to take on someone too green who might not be ready, like Lumeka. And he has to offer something different to the other strikers. That means pace, and it would be a bonus if he could play on the wing as well, as if we had to change formations we would have cover.
I think someone like Olopado Afolayan (West Ham) ticks most of the boxes, played for Solihull before, also would not have to move far.

Re: New Striker...Any names?
Both the new boys have to come good. And stay fit all season. And not pick up any suspensions.
There’s no way Harold or Alabi will be starting games.
I suspect the club are hoping Ruel continues his development and is the next starlet. I haven’t seen enough of the kid to comment but that has to be the thinking. There’s no other logical explanation for starting the season with these 4 senior strikers.

Why wouldn't Alabi start games? He's young, fit (l presume) and strong. Whether he has the talent is open for debate.

Re: New Striker...Any names?
Because he's not good enough.
I'm not going to query his age. I'm sure he's also fit, although lacking in match sharpness seeing as he's only played 10 games in the last 2 years. But he's definitely not strong.

This. I expect Sotirou is the next target to develop, sell and reinvest minimal funds.CreamofSumYungGai wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2019 8:58 am Both the new boys have to come good. And stay fit all season. And not pick up any suspensions.

Re: New Striker...Any names?
Wouldn’t necessarily be ideal but I don’t think there should be an issue with Matt Harrold starting if needs be - he’s almost four years younger than McAnuff who started the vast majority of games last season!

Re: New Striker...Any names?
Not really fair on the guy who has Impressed, on occasions, league managers. But it seems not for too long. So he must have displayed potential but not really delivered. Other than Chester where his scoring record is excellent.point nine one eight wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2019 11:59 amDebate closed he ain't got it, never has never will be.
We too have seen glimpses of what he can do. In fairness not often enough, but glimpses none the less. So has he got talent, I would say yes. Has he got the ability to show that talent week in, week out. Not based on our experience.
Seems he will get his chances next season. I for one hope he delivers big time. He has the potential but can he deliver.

Re: New Striker...Any names?
Too much is being made of his age. He could do 90 if called upon, and do it well. Just because he has been used as an impact sub don’t mean is isn’t capable of starting and finishing.

Can understand that give my record of getting things totally wrong. Though was top of the prediction league for most of last season, falling away at the end, so I guess I can be right sometimes.Red_Army wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2019 2:24 pmTotally agree, which is now making me doubt myself.

People aren't saying that because of his age or fitness.

Re: New Striker...Any names?
The fact he got constantly injured until Justin started using him as an impact substitute speaks volumes.
