My mate and I are comming down for the Colchester game on the 18th March and have got tickets for the East Stand. I have not been in thi sstand before (usually either West or Tommy's).

What is it like in their, heard conflicting opinions. Is there a decent bar (or at least somewhere we can get a beer), does it anywhere we can get some grub etc.

Thanks in advance.

The East Stand has two things going for it:

(1) the view (provided you're not behind a pillar)
(2) what it looks like from a safe distance

Obviously you only get to experience one of these when you're actually inside it.

Unless you go down after about 30 mins you aren’t getting good or drink. Or miss 15 mins of the second half. It has character but it’s too crowded and badly managed

Used to sit in the West purely so I didn’t have to look at it but been in the East for about 5 seasons now.

Concourses are tight, the queues for food and the Gents (and ladies too) are painfully long and the bar feels as if you’re in a bunker.

The positive is that the view is great and I find it quite cosy with the old stand roof boxing you in. A really sound group of fans around me too. Also, an increasingly younger demographic of new fans who have moved to the area are in there and supporting their new local club which is very refreshing after all the professional moaners in the West. (And good they’re a BR instead of heading to the TPS). Brilliant for the future of the club.

It also shaves 2 minutes off getting home and means I’m never home later than 17:00.

Wouldn’t sit anywhere else now but it’s poor from a customer service usex.

As somebody else said it's a very good view of the pitch as long as you don't get a post in the way.

Advantages..
The sun on your face, on a cold sunny day it's 10 degrees warmer than the West Stand
Disadvantages..
The sun on your face, on a cold sunny day you'll be saluting for most of the match

It's amazing what they got away with before the Bradford fire in 1985.
The upper part of the East stand was completely blocked off from exiting on to the pitch in an emergency.

I recall vividly when it started to collapse during a match. Highlighting it was a legacy from another time.
