Nicola Sturgeon to resign as Scotland's first minister
Nicola Sturgeon is to resign as Scotland's first minister after more than eight years in the role.
The Scottish National Party leader is expected to make the announcement at a hastily-arranged news conference in Edinburgh.
It is not thought that her departure will be immediate, allowing time for a successor to be elected.
A source close to Ms Sturgeon - the longest-serving first minister - told the BBC that she had "had enough".
Former SNP MP Stephen Gethins said he was "surprised... and disappointed" by the news.

If only she'd known the difference between men, women, and rapists, this situation could probably have been avoided.
Sad that she'll never fulfil her dream of leading the Scotch people to the independence and future they deserve.

And another decent female leader steps down cos they've, understandably, had enough.
The drive rightwards continues.

I regarded her as about the best politician in the UK. Agree or disagree with her, she is generally unmatched by any others l can think of.

What a disgrace. Imagine a politician stepping down in a rational and dignified manner. Would've been much better if she'd been proven to be a liar, a cheat and a scoundrel and then clung on desperately until she was literally dragged from office.

She has led the Indy Crew down a blind alley, There is less support for it now than in 2014.
She hasn't really delivered on Education, Health and poverty reduction.
So I too disagree with Milano. It is by their deeds they will be judged.

Re: Nicola Sturgeon to resign as Scotland's first minister
I can't think of a more effective politician but, asyou know, l'm an emigrant so the finger isn't really on the pulse. l will say she and her people handled the covid thing better than anyone else - as far as l can tell. I don't know about this gender thing nor if her independence drive was altogether wise but, if were a Jock, l'd be seriously p1ssed at being dragged out of the EU against my wishes.
Anyway, l'm rambling now. Never mind, I rate her above everything else see on PMQs with the possible exception of Ben Wallace, l see no such person on the opposition benches

Thank you for reducing politics to a personality contest. Although I will give you the Covid thing. She handled it well.Milano wrote: ↑Wed Feb 15, 2023 9:13 pm I can't think of a more effective politician but, asyou know, l'm an emigrant so the finger isn't really on the pulse. l will say she and her people handled the covid thing better than anyone else - as far as l can tell. There's a party in George Square tonight by the unionist types organised by taxi drivers who hate the SNP because of the ULEZ in Glasgow and them holding back Covid money until after the Scotch election. They believe they were being bribed to vote SNP.
