Fish and chip restaurant closes amid owners' 'environment concerns'

Whatever these guys saw on their fishing trip must have made a big impact to do something as drastic as closing down their own restaurant !!
A fish and chip restaurant has closed down after the owners decided they felt "uncomfortable" about the environmental impact of their business.

The Fish and The Chip, in St Nicholas Place, Leicester, was billed as a modern take on traditional fish and chips when it opened in 2017.
However, its owners said a recent fishing trip had got them thinking about its green footprint.
They said they were working on a new food-based venture. A notice placed in the restaurant's window said: "Our fishing trip was great but turned out to be a bit of an eye-opener.
"We saw the impact pollution is having on the oceans and fish stocks and we are not comfortable running a restaurant that has an impact on our environment."

Hope they don’t go on a tour of the clothes making countries. They will be walking around naked.

Owner Aatkin Anadkat said he understood there might be those who suspected the restaurant was actually being closed for business reasons.
He said: "There is more than one reason - as with most things

Good point, very bad working conditions and such low wages. Also children working in some of these places for poverty wages.

Sid depends on the business and their ethics. Not everyone is like that, some state working conditions must be x standard, min pay of x, min age of x and so on. There are sharks out there no doubt about it.

Bangladesh has VERY low wages, Philippines, if £100 a month, then not a bad job !! India has a lot of child workers, western firms should really do more to make sure that the workers doing their work so much cheaper get better working conditions and wages. Thing is, that quite often, white electrical goods and food are MORE expensive to buy than in UK. I have noticed that when I have traveled abroad, especially Mauritius which I have visited many times, amazing how these poor people get by, especially as many of these countries have no free healthcare or benefit systems. I have a friend in USA who is an ill man and he is so envious of the NHS that we have in UK. He says that in many ways, especially when it comes to healthcare for the poor and elderly, USA is akin to a third world country !!

Sid I've travelled for work in the usa more times than I can to remember! They general man in the street there thinks our system is rubbish, that we have a death panel who decides if you live or die!!
For example over there they have insurance to cover everything, care, ops, tablets the whole nine yards and their belief is that cos they pay it's better than the nhs cos we don't and it's free. So I asked what happens if you have cancer and your cover runs out? They replied it wouldn't happen, but if you did you would die!!
If your poor over there forget it, you are dead. There is treatment, but they ain't gonna bother too much for you if they ain't making money out of you.
And they hate Obama care as the people who can afford it subsidise the ones who can't and they believe that they shouldn't have to do that!! Its truly staggering.

My brother in law lives in the US and has a heart condition that is covered by insurance whilst he's in work but the cover won't be of any use when he retires.
He's therefore coming back to the UK to be cared for by the NHS. I don't mind subsidising his health care whilst he's been contributing nothing to the UK system for 20 years even though he's a Tory ratbag. However, his faith in the free market has been badly shaken and he will be voting Labour when he gets back.
Many Americans can probably also understand the same principle is central to Obama care and have no beef with it especially the 30m who can't afford healthcare.

On the contrary, as a qualified environmentalist I’m a great believer that we can all do our bit. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle stuff. As I’ve pointed out elsewhere the term environmentally friendly is bolox for products. The correct term is environmentally less damaging.
Even the concept of cheap Labour ain’t so simple. In many cases earning a pittance is better than earning nothing and closing down factories that pay peanuts can remove some families only source of income. Sometimes doing things that make us feel better actually make others worse off. If every chippy shut down, think of the ramifications to people whose lives depend on the industry. The answer perhaps is well managed fish stocks.
An example. A factory in Pakistan used children in the manufacture of footballs. Small hands made the job easy. The outcry to stop using child labour caused the factory to close. But for many families the children were their only source of income. The human rights people got the factory closed. What a victory. But families starved as a result.
We all know this stuff ain’t right. But we need to be careful because sometimes actions have dire consequences too. Complex issue.

I'm confused are you arguing for child labour as a solution to prevent whole families starving. Can you post a link to the starving families story. Cheers.

An actual argument promoting child labour. Genuinely think I've seen it all on here now.

The reality is they had a bad business and it stank the plaice out.
I bet the bank called a loan or debt in, that would be my guess. Its happening all the time, but you won't see it reported in the press.

I exchange emails nearly everyday with my friend who lives in the Washington State. He is very educated but has never traveled to any countries abroad due to his ill health that started when he was in his early forty's after a serious car accident where his car was hit by a ''hit and run driver''
Americans, especially many of those from the Southern States seem in general to struggle to place any other countries on a world map and have this strange mindset when it comes to a government funded health system. When you watch a redneck Youtube channel like Trump supporter Martin Brodel, well these people seem to live in an alternative universe especially where they MOCK the idea of the idea of any human influence in ''Climate Change'' In actual fact many Trump supporters refuse to even believe that Climate change is even happening. These people preach so much extreme right wing hatred yet at the same time state they are Christians, forever praising God etc !! Also many Americans firmly believe in ''DEEP STATE'' conspiracy theories, strange lot of people indeed who think of USA as the Centre of the Universe !!

Did you know in the US America they have a different name for Association Football?! They call it e.g 'SOCCER!'. Baffling.
