Yes folks they really do exist. The annual Stone Skimming Championships take place in Scotland.
The Bog Snorkelling Championships (that's peat bog in case anyone gets the wrong idea) are held in Ireland.
And it's said the English are eccentric - although we do have Morris Dancing.

It's good that they're separate events.
Would be dreadful to emerge from your bog as world champion only to be felled by a 13 skip effort.

For a long time I have believed that stone skimming should be an Olympic sport whereas bog snorkelling is just for stupid idiots.

The world skimming record was set in 2014 by American, Kurt Steiner, with 88 skips. A magnificent achievement bettered only by the person who counted them.
