Change of style

With two forwards gone at 5ft 10in and 5ft 11in being replaced by two forwards 6ft 3in and 6 ft 2in we have significantly increased our ariel threat. Add to that Matt Harold, a mere 6ft 1in. Alabi also 6ft 1in but perhaps not relevant. Plus a midfield that isn’t overly creative and full backs, Judd apart, who not massive creators.

Coincidence or does it signal a more direct style of play. I reckon we will see more long balls to the front two supplemented with the odd creative buildup from JMD, Jobi and Brophy.

Bit more route 1

Don't believe so, Joe Angol by all accounts is a tricky player and we'll have Jordan, Jobi, James B and possibly James D to create chances. Having a taller front line might help in playing direct when we need to, but otherwise I can't see their being a step change from what we were doing under Justin.

Agreed I don’t see us changing styles and as Danny has now been promoted I’m sure we will even play a little more maybe? But for sure I see the sa,e style the players have been used to and familiar with.

6ft one and a half on wiki. Though I do recall seeing 5:10 somewhere else.

Either way I hope you guys are right and we only use the long ball game when needed.

Please advice the circumstances where the long ball game is needed. Thank you.

Having looked around he is either 178 or 187cm. We will know when we see him.

When we lose any control in the midfield, like that hasn’t happened before, time is running out and we need to change things around.

Is the wrong answer. It is not needed in the game in general. But thanks for your answer.

More of a counter-attacking side with Bonne and Koroma, in the first half of the season particularly. Got a bit less easy on the eye from January on and we relied on set pieces more than anything.

I agree with the OP, I think we'll be very direct this year with a lot more crosses coming in

When we play a Scottish team as like corporal Jones once said "they don't like it up um" 🤣

It’s interesting how different people see the same game. I didn’t think we were too direct last season. Plenty of playing it across the back, then put wide to Ling/Judd/Widdowson plus of course Jobi and Brophy adding some width.

Of course there were the hoofball moments but Coulson and Ekpiteta in the main I though were always looking to start considered attacks, even up to Bonne who often played deep.

There is a difference between direct and long ball.

Direct football and hoofball are not the same thing

Generally interchanged terms meaning the same thing, route one front to back and at lower levels that is hoofball as defenders don't have the accuracy to play 60 yard balls onto a pinpoint spot.

Nope, not at all. Direct football is fast paced football where the ball is moved quickly forwards. Long ball football is when the ball is moved from back to front quickly using a target man, usually.

Long ball football is American football isn't it?

I've just changed out of my work clothes and into nice clothes to go and have a beer in Liverpool St.

Now that's style over substance!
