There is a village in Essex named Ugley and a village in Hertfordshire named Nasty.
Some years back a remarkable event took place resulting in the Saffron Walden Local paper's
headline "Ugley Woman Marries Nasty Man".
Beat that.

Just looked it up as it bought back memories.I remember cycling through Ugley Green in the mid 70's with the cycling club I was with at the time on the way to the place we stayed at for the weekend. Also remember Elsenham (to get to Ugley) which we passed through which had a railway level crossing and station if I recall correctly. Also at the time I remember they were building the M11.I've been up there rarely ever since.
At the time it was a really nice place.

That's incredible.

Funnily enough, in the neighbouring village of Erbum, just on the outskirts of the town of Tillet, is a cosy little boozer, The Cock Inn. A lady by the name of Lucy Lykes took over the hostelry. Her friend went on holiday shortly after and couldn't believe the address when she was writing out a post card to Lucy:

Lucy Lykes
The Cock Inn
Erbum
Tillet
Herts

The postcode was SG12 9EF but I've excluded that as it is not funny.

This is true, swear down.

Beat that.

Don't forget, down in Kent near the town of Sandwich, is a village called Ham. I believe that there is a famous signpost.

Tis true. My old cycling club, the Victoria CC, had the newspaper cutting pinned up the the old club hut in Newport, Essex.

What has all this got to do with the Orient?

For those who wish to focus on football only, try the β€˜other’ board.
