What do you think happens after you die?

Post by The Reverend »

Been pondering this recently. What do you think happens to you after you pass on?

As far as I can tell there are a number of possibilities, including:

1. An afterlife - your soul continues in another plane of existence

2. Reincarnation - you come back as something else on this world

3. Scientific based immortality - theories such as quantum resurrection

4. Eternal oblivion - lights out. Consciousness switched off. Forever.

Which one do you believe? Or maybe you have another idea.

6. Your online life is either discarded or used in another game after being updated for use there. That is why everyone in our game have glitches, especially if lazy reprogramming is involved.

I think about Death far too much. We will never experience it. It used to induce lots of anxiety but as I get older I find acceptance much easier. Perhaps life gets more difficult. The only thing worse than death is living forever imo.

I suspect that the time after you've been alive will feel exactly the same as the time before you were born felt.

I appreciate the honesty in this answer. Can you pinpoint any particular reason why you find acceptance easier as you get older? I have heard that death anxiety decreases with age (which seems counter intuitive as the older the are, the closer to the end you are) but it does seem to be a genuine change that happens. I wonder why that is.

My dad used to say ' it can't that bad where you go because no-one ever comes back'. He died at 42.

No
Even though it would mean the permanent cessation of your consciousness, including all memories?

For many this is a chilling concept. I’m curious as to how you seem so stoic about it.

This. Life does become harder with age. Age also limits what you can do physically. I would rather live to, say, 75 and have a good life than to make it to 90 without having enjoyed much of the last 15 years. I had to lift my dad on and off the toilet; experience my mum defacate herself in her last 18 months. I have no desire to either experience that or put my kids through it.

The only reason people believe in an afterlife is because they somehow think they pass to an idyllic place where neither work nor poverty exists. Its a load of dreamy crap. I will probably burn in hell forever for writing that if I'm wrong!!

I firmly believe in Number 1 . I believe only the body dies but your consciousness goes on . Some incredible stories on YouTube that backs up number 2. IMO , definitely not number 4.

4. And I'm not particular happy about it either. But how I feel about it is unlikely to ever make any difference to the actual outcome.

People who have had an NDE ( Near Death Experience) report experiencing roughly the same thing . When tens of thousands of people worldwide experiencing this I have to conclude something is definitely happening after death

Was this before you died in your Mothers Womb or after you exited that embyonic life to your next Journey ?

I was referring to after your birth a which I think is what you have described as “exited that embyomic life to your next journey”

When my heart stopped beating, 4 years back, it was just like someone putting the lights out. Sources say that I was " dead " 10-20 minutes. I collapsed in the doctors surgery at Grays, just as an ambulance came to collect me. I came back to the land of the living in resus at Basildon. I don't know exactly when I my heart stopped beating. But when they brought me around, the first thing I was asked, was " do you know where you are ? " I guessed that I was at Basildon. I remembered right up to the moment I flaked out. I was told this is unusual ( you can often loose a week or two of the events prior to the cardiac arrest ).
Very recent research suggests brain death is far more final that cardiac arrest, which fits in with my experience. Quite a while ago there was some experimentation with people who were guillotined. Scientists asked victims to try and co-operate. There was some evidence that the victims had their eyes wide open and seemingly following the scientists. Grisly stuff!

I was merely asking which life of thinking .
Your womb life terminated (died) & your
new existence began .
The thinking part just adapted
to its new enviroment surely ?
