Re: Smith Out - Wareham In
Wellens quote : "His work rate, his intensity and his goal threat will make him a very welcome addition to the group. His goal record in friendlies and under-21 matches is good, and he's also had that exposure to the men's game during his time at Woking."

Re: Smith Out - Wareham In
Looks like the Terry family link has helped us out here. Different level of loan signings to usual, I like it

Can't see what the fuss is about with Wareham, not sure how much game time he'll get, seems a downgrade on Smith - but might suit Richie's style of play more. Happy to be proven wrong, hope he does well.
Duke Mckenna looks an exciting signing though.

Re: Smith Out - Wareham In
It’s the style of football RW wants from this team, which is the reason why Smith has gone on loan to Exeter and been replaced by a young promising Wareham.
RW said on more than one occasion, when Smith comes on late in games the tendency from the players if we are chasing games or need a goal, is to hit the ball long up to Smith, which RW doesn’t want.

Never heard of him so impossible to comment.
It’s a real shame Smith has gone so pressure is on this boy to deliver.

Top league scorer last season departing for a club in the divison above... In exchange for a player who's never played a senior professional game
Hat's off to Martin, he's done it again

Kelman has made the striker spot his own with the way he's started the season, Drinan coming back is the next natural option so Wareham can be an explosive option from the bench.
Smith just didn't seem to fit and when you hear RW saying Smith needed to adapt to the pressing game it just never seemed like it would work. Not really like Smith was ever a big lump of last resort option like, say Harrold either. That is arguably the only thing we're missing but perhaps not a style Wellens wants to use.
If anything the pressure is on Sotiriou to perform when he gets the chance, that competition may be exactly what he needs.

The squad is now weaker, but sounds like he didn't want to be a bench player.

Re: Smith Out - Wareham In
It's a strange one, on one hand the stats would say we've lost a 15 goal striker...Long slender neck wrote: ↑Thu Sep 01, 2022 10:45 pm The squad is now weaker, but sounds like he didn't want to be a bench player.
...but that said I do remember thinking it was Smith coming into the side that triggered the change in play under Jackett from the zippy pressing game (a bit like we're doing now) to the long ball stuff that became KJ's undoing.
One thing defenders hate is pace and we've now got a forward line chock full of it. Upfront is one area you can really afford to take a gamble on raw younger players who will run through brick walls. The good thing is we're doing it with talent from 2-3 leagues above.
How many times has it been asked why we don't get a loan from a Man Utd / Chelsea / Arsenal... now we have.

Thought Chelsea had about 200 U23 players? Will wait until I see him play to judge.

Good luck Harry, a good option off the bench but doesn't suit Richies playing style. Welcome Jaydon, got it all to prove but must have something about him to still be at Chelsea

Impossible to comment as I don’t know the kid coming in but having Harry on the bench and as part of the match day squad was a big deal. He gave us something different, but also gave us a bit of nous and experience. We’re now down to just Pratley and Beccles as team leaders.Long slender neck wrote: ↑Thu Sep 01, 2022 10:45 pm The squad is now weaker, but sounds like he didn't want to be a bench player.
I agree, it has to have been him that wanted away.

Just like how he has managed to get Kelman, Moncur and El Mizouni? He's done badly with these as well...Currywurst and Chips wrote: ↑Thu Sep 01, 2022 10:22 pm Top league scorer last season departing for a club in the divison above... Re: Smith Out - Wareham In
I agree . Smith going has nothing to do with Martin Ling . As others have said Smith doesn't really suit Richie's style of play . It was probably just between Richie and Harry who wanted this move . I couldn't help thinking we are giving Exeter Harry Smith yet look who they gave us last season . Lego head , George Ray . Stark difference in quality .Loyal_Supporter wrote: ↑Thu Sep 01, 2022 11:29 pmJust like how he has managed to get Kelman, Moncur and El Mizouni? I've just listened to Jayden's interview and I didn't think he was arrogant at all . He seem's like a good young lad . I wish him every success at Orient .

Smith never really struck me as a leader. Moncur looks like one though. Clay also.Gary the Plumber wrote: ↑Thu Sep 01, 2022 11:17 pmImpossible to comment as I don’t know the kid coming in but having Harry on the bench and as part of the match day squad was a big deal. Re: Smith Out - Wareham In
Harry has some good qualities but, as you say, leadership isn't one of them. He is a trier but, in the modern game, he's light years behind Kelman.

Re: Smith Out - Wareham In
No idea what he plays like but he was born in Berkshire yet still has that horrible London accent that all the kids are sporting nowadays. Kelman, Ruel, Hector etc etc. what’s happened to the cockney accent!
