Yes it was a bowlers' wicket but some of our batters were out to poor shots eg Elgar - 10 runs for the whole match. Top until next weekend, be great if Surrey lose.
I think Somerset got caught out by the weather. I don't think they were able to fully prepare the pitch and take off as much grass as they normally would. But you comment about our batters is spot on, some very ugly dismissals. Still overall a promising start to the season.

Even better if it was rained off entirely and they got "Nul Points", but that's as unlikely as snow in London in June

This week's match against Warks is already a must win with Surrey now 21 points clear. Members Lunch on Saturday to look forward to. And I'll be trying to get there on other days too.

Somerset defeated inside 2 days !!!! Hampshire racking up the runs against Surrey :D

And Jordan Cox get's a double ton for Essex. He has been a good signing.

Good to see Aaron Beard back in the side after injury, just got to get Big Paul Walter fit again.

Terrific opportunity for Essex to finish this half of the championship only 1 point behind Surrey - and 2 matches to play against Surrey. Not easy to take wickets but if Agar isn't going to bat Essex need a further 14 wickets. Weather looks good tomorrow - here's hoping.

Surrey 4 wickets down and still trailing Hants by 380 runs. I hope the weather forecast is clear for Soton for the next two days.

Kent are proving remarkably obdurate against the pace and spin of the Essex bowlers. But I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

First home T20 on Sunday, I'll be there. C'mon you Eagles :D

Essex bowlers have got a lot of work to do tomorrow.

I'm glad Westley decided to use his off-spin, he's got to replace Lawrence's occasional bowling.

Hopefully Snater will have a better day tomorrow. We need him to bowl a much better line and length and make the batters play.

If Essex can have Kent at 9 down for less than 100, even 150, I don't think Kent will feel it's worth while sending Agar out and that will be that.

This is all set up for us to pip Surrey by 4 points at the end of the season and the ECB to announce a six point deduction for Kushi’s bat issue earlier this season the following day.

What a perfect round of matches! An Essex win, Surrey and Somerset losing heavily - who would have predicted that1 2 points behind Surrey and our next CC match will be against - Surrey. Well done Essex - 19 wickets on that strip is a terrific achievement; be afraid Surrey!

The ECB are supposed to announce the result of their investigation into that and the alleged racial slurs report in June. John Stephenson said that at the Members Lunch during the Warks match.

Not a good start to the T20 season, 2 wickets down for no runs after 3 balls.

How can you have an "investigation" into the bat incident? It was either too wide or it wasn't! Why do sporting authorities take so long to deal with these issues? It's pathetic really.

2 leggies bowling for Essex, Critchley & Benkenstein and the latter picks up a wicket as I write.

Been a poor night for Essex.

Baffled why Elgar is I the T20 line up it’s not his game and not why we brought him here and don’t even start me on Adam Rossington, what a waste of three years money, better off letting Pepper or Cox keep and play Kushi or Thain.

That's a bad, huge defeat by T20 standards. No one played well IMO, though a mention in dispatches for Cox & Tall Paul. Gotta do better tomorrow. The match is live on Sky Sports Cricket Channel.

The plus side is I can now watch Eng beat Pakistan.

All over and a bad defeat. Our top order batters let us down by 40 runs or so. Where were Khushi and Snater tonight - neither in the squad?
