I think it's because he leaked classified information and then defected to Russia to avoid facing up to the consequences of his actions. I wonder if he's re-evaluating his life choices right now?
Anyway, we digress; Has Ed been in touch lately?
What was the nature of the classified information and what did it reveal about the US?
Why should he fave up to the consequences if his actions. The US never does? Strange remark.
Ed has no reason to contact me or even know who I am. I'm not a supporter of his new home country.
Ukraine is a line in the sand for the West and what is left of its democracies that is why I support the fight against the military intervention.
Ahem, that's "Special Military Operation" if you please.
Heh. That's what I meant. Just couldn't be bothered checking if I got it right.

If there's one thing the Zelenskyy government is incredibly good at, it's the use of social media and imagery to convey a message. This video is well crafted to target the heart strings. But he knows, we all know, that we cannot do what he asks.
That is a good piece of work from the FT and really highlights how crucial basic logistics are.

I think we can all relax - Bono’s written a St Paddy’s Day verse in limerick form about it. Surely World Peas can’t be far off now…
Oh, St Patrick he drove out the snakes
With his prayers but that’s not all it takes
For the snake symbolises
An evil that rises
And hides in your heart, as it breaks
And the evil has risen my friends
From the darkness that lives in some men
But in sorrow and fear
That’s when saints can appear
To drive out those old snakes once again
And they struggle for us to be free
From the psycho in this human family
Ireland’s sorrow and pain
Is now the Ukraine
And St Patrick’s name now Zelenskyy

Jesus. The cringe is pulling my jaw around to the back of my head. All we need now is for Bob Geldof to wade in with a free-form verse.

Thinking about all this, over the last few days, I've come to the conclusion that the West or NATO was very wrong to tell Putin, they would not be engaging in Ukraine with weapons.
Once he knows this, Putin can now do what he wants knowing there will be no reprisals from powerful opponents.
We should never have said this. Let him guess, not really knowing whether the West will or will not have entered a conflict with Russia.
You never tell your opponent what you are going to do, it's madness
Hardly a suprise, considering what gets posted on

I don't want to jonah the war, but this could be the start of Russia preparing to recalibrate public expectation, and to spin a defeat as some sort of victory. It's just a shame that they had to destroy so many lives.

As you say it looks like Putin is looking to get out. Possibility looking to keep the "liberated" Donetsk & Luhansk regions.
The West will keep up their strong words and Ukraine will get help to rebuild but Putin will be safe. Russia will slowly be allowed to rejoined the world but expect Putin to have another go somewhere at some point.
Not forgetting it was Boris that won it.

Just a quick observation, by putting in a bid for the next World Cup must indicate that Putin has no intention of starting WW3

Is it the World Cup or Euros? The Russians have a lot of previous for cheating.
That fencer, Boris Onischenko and his adapted electronic epee (sword thing, for our younger readers, nothing to do with lap larch at B&Q or fencing stolen watches for senior reader) what at scoundrel he was?
The Russians even cheat in Chess. Don’t know about Roulette.
