Just had another vape shop open in my high st, which is the third in a very small area. Alongside about 6 barber shops. Most got to be fronts

They're the new dessert/ice cream shops.

Although people really do seem to love vaping.

As sh*t as smoking is it actually is quite cool. Vaping is the saddest nerdiest sh*t ever.

And the nail bars. There are 4-5 in the Hamlet of Hornchurch now. A new one just opened last week. And don't forget the Thai Massage shops. But why is anyone surprised, it's been going on for years. I remember the garage shop scandal where so many were used to funnel money to the Tamil Tigers.

Iconic images of Sophia Loren chugging on a disposable strawberry and passionfruit dream.

If the Vape/ Nail and Barbers weren't there you would have boarded up shops. It is a good source of income for cash strapped councils.

So you're saying organised crime is good, actually, because it keeps care homes open and gets the bins collected? Quite the quandary.

Are they even paying their taxes though?

I expect its a net loss for the council in many cases.

Part of the problem is that retailers are disappearing from traditional shopping locations partly due to online shopping and retails parks etc.

In a lot of locations the only demand for these places comes from vape shops, barbers or take away. A lot of shopping locations are owned by councils who use the rent income towards funding public services. A straight choice between income from a tenant you’d have not considered 10 years ago or no income at all is the reality now.

Our economy is now based on money laundering in the City, money laundering in crappy high street commercial units, and the black market trade of undocumented migrants renting a Deliveroo ID.

It’s no more than we deserve. A poorly thought out immigration policy , no long term ceiling on numbers , no checks on history or criminality.
