Re: Coronavirus
Here is a contrast: Germany has closed the doors to UK travellers (and travellers from many other countries). German nationals who live abroad and registered German residents can arrive but will have to quarantine for 14 days. This is based on assessment from scientists at the Robert Koch institute.
In England it's about party politics.
To keep himself in the job (for now) Johnson has to keep the extremists onside and they are not too bothered about the lives of minions . Profit and power is all that matters. So they demand 'business as usual'.
As human beings, we all need hope for better things. So the current media headlines are about "all is well" (just don't think about tomorrow!).
So for the next few days there won't be an extension of highlighting Johnson's failures. People will be just so grateful that until Boxing Day they can see their family.
And then maybe they won't be too bothered if the rate of infection goes mega?

Most of us have already been jabbed 2 or 3 times . No country can carry on going into lockdowns forever. Incidentally, all my family have been jabbed 3 times each. 5.2 million covid deaths, its a bit like saying minimal deaths from the 1992 leyton flu whilst ignoring 1918 spanis flu & its 50+ millio deaths, any strain has the possibility to wipe us all out, mild illness or not.RedDwarf 1881 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 23, 2021 3:32 amHow many deaths worldwide from the Omicron variant ?tuffers#1 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 23, 2021 1:40 am5 million + deaths ,wont be to many more mild illnesses before we're all wiped out !RedDwarf 1881 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 23, 2021 1:18 am

If it is milder like a cold then I would like to know how many died having had a common cold in the previous 28 days.

I’m not sure anyone said it’s likes the common cold. It’s milder than delta but still dangerous, especially to certain s groups of people.Stamford O wrote: ↑Thu Dec 23, 2021 7:43 am If it is milder like a cold then I would like to know how many died having had a common cold in the previous 28 days.

Impossible for any doctor to know so early on, so their opinions count for nothing.RedDwarf 1881 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 23, 2021 1:18 amNo , not just one doctor, she is one of many . the risk of any attendance at hospital was 20% to 25% lower with Omicron versus Delta, and 40%-45% lower when the visit resulted in admission for at least one night. For the small percentage of people who had neither been previously infected with Covid nor vaccinated, the risk of hospitalisation was about 11% lower for Omicron versus Delta
Considering Omicron is so much more transmissible, the figures above may not be enough.

Re: Coronavirus
Agreed, and this is the crux of it and what some either fail to understand or don’t want to consider. More people will get Omicron - so even a much lower percentage of hospitalisation could still swamp the NHS. Clearly, this needs to be avoided.Prestige Worldwide wrote: ↑Thu Dec 23, 2021 9:21 amImpossible for any doctor to know so early on, so their opinions count for nothing.RedDwarf 1881 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 23, 2021 1:18 amNo , not just one doctor, she is one of many . I actually took a look online and if you’re referring to the item by that a-hole Liddle, previously of The Spectator, then that is a scandalous piece of disingenuous crap. He does indeed state that Omicron is akin to a cold and the government should treat it as such. What a lying piece of ordure this man is and what a mouthpiece The Sun is for those who want “business first, people second” to be prevalent.RedDwarf 1881 M wrote: ↑Thu Dec 23, 2021 8:47 am The front page of the Sun makes for interesting reading today .

No, he’s stating that Omicron is no worse than the common cold and therefore no restrictions are needed. It’s a dangerous piece of “journalism” designed to support business wanting to get “back to normality” regardless of the human cost.Story of O wrote: ↑Thu Dec 23, 2021 10:42 amHe is picking up on the point that Omicron symptoms can feel like a cold, does not mean it is a coldBoniO wrote: ↑Thu Dec 23, 2021 10:32 amI actually took a look online and if you’re referring to the item by that a-hole Liddle, previously of The Spectator, then that is a scandalous piece of disingenuous crap. I know I worry about it but old Mrs Crawford doesn't get to because after getting Covid she's now just a pile of ashes in the rose garden at the Paisley Crematorium.

There's no lateral flow tests anywhere it seems just at the point people need them before Xmas interaction (probably why)

I tend to find that engaging your brain helps.
