Did he become an upholsterer after his playing career ended?

Wikipedia again https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Lazarus

Later life ...After his footballer career was over, he became a minder for snooker players, including Steve Davis at the time of his loss to Dennis Taylor in the 1985 World Snooker Championship final.[14] As of 2007, he ran a haulage firm in Romford.
Lazarus was named in a list of the top 100 Queens Park Rangers players of all time, constructed by the club's historian in 2007.[4]
Personal life. He married his wife Fay in 1959, and has two children and five grandchildren. His nephew is former Leyton Orient footballer Bobby Fisher.

Bobby Fisher was never the same once he chucked it all in for chess.
He simply became a mere pawn.

You mean he was OK as a ROOKie but unlikely to get knighted for services to football

Really good article here about Mark Lazarus. Footballing legend of 50 years ago cost £27,500

MARK LAZARUS: SIMON YAFFE hears what it was like to play before the onset of the millionaire stars
THE accent is old school East End, reminiscent of a bygone era and a defiant spirit during the Blitz.

True. Spent too much time in his castle to make a success of it.

I heard he became a Bishop as he was inspired by Alan Comfort.

Bobby Fisher is one of my all time favourite players to represent this club. As a boy I used to look up to him and admire him.

He was a decent player as was his Czech mate whose name escapes me.

Skillful fullback. Did you ever see Dennis Rofe play?
He was something else, my all time favourite Orient fullback.
Unlucky not to get a full England cap.

Good player. Seem to recall that originally Leicester wanted fellow O, Bob Smoothe, but the club said Dennis had to be part of the deal as they had to take the Rofe with the Smoothe.

No I never saw him as I was too young when he played for us. My dad always said he was a brilliant player, and a local lad to boot.

Yes Dennis Rofe was born in Epping. At that time, Jimmy Bloomfield was the manager and we had 18 year old Dennis playing at left back and 17 year old Tommy Taylor playing as central defender. 2 amazing young players who both ended up playing for first division clubs for a good amount of years.

It's a shame when you think of the players who we've had at one time or another come through the youth team who never had their best years with us.

That's the pain point of being in the shadow of our bigger neighbours.

I thought he looked well past it when he came back to the Os in 1969, but once he got his fitness back, he became a hero of mine also. Two ''Oldies'' on each wing who were complete opposites in style and personality, Mark was a rough diamond, not the type of man who would mess with !! He played on the right wing, all passion, fire and fury and YES, a rocket of a shot !! Peter Brabrook on the left wing was a real Mr Smooth, always looked immaculate when on the pitch, every hair in place !! Peter had lost a bit of pace since his peak, but all style and class ( ex England International ) . When I think of all the excuses for Gorman and Simpson not having enough time to get really match fit, despite all the time spent training, well Mark Lazarus as I recall, came to us looking really unfit and past it ( he was 31 years old at the time, but within 4 or 5 matches, he was up, running and flying !! Remember the famous
Celebrations of running all round the pitch when he scored, what a LEGEND !!

Mark WAS a boxer when young as were his Brothers, see Wikipedia below !!

Another bit of information here ''After he moved back to Orient for a fee of £8,000, in October 1969''
Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Lazarus
Lazarus, who was Jewish, was born on 5 December 1938 in Stepney, London. He said, of growing up in a Jewish family, "There was no antisemitism in the East End – that came later when we moved to Chadwell Heath, in Essex, when I was six. We were the only Jewish family in the area and I had fights every day on the way to school." Two of his brothers were boxers, one of whom, Lew Lazar, fought for the British title at welterweight and middleweight. He initially followed his brothers into boxing, having fought a few amateur fights. At the request of his father Isaac, he became an apprentice upholsterer in order to ensure that he had a trade once any potential sporting career ended.''
After his football career ended he became a removals expert, actually turned up at my fathers removal from Upminster to Hornchurch

Different styles but two excellent left backs.
