Redline wrote: Tue Mar 17, 2020 11:05 am There is no probable about changes every day. There are changes every day. If you wonder about advice given to people, the UK is no different from Aus it seems. Advice from the Government conflicts with advice from GPs for example, watched the programme 30 minutes ago. Mixed messages abound. Doctors want interstate travel restrictions, the authorities don’t. Doctors want massive lock downs, the Government want a different approach. It’s is a mess and opinions vary drastically even amongst experts.

In my opinion it’s very hard to criticise any group, all want a solution but see different ways of achieving it.

Data.

Tests by country based on best available data. Examples

Italy 77,000
UK 30,000
France, Austria, Netherlands circa 6,000
USA 20,000
China 320,000
S Korea 248,000
Russia 77,000
Japan, 10,000. Wow, Olympics around the corner!

When tests are made on a per million population the UK remains top 10 and is one of a few countries who provide updated data several times a day.

This data is of course best available and very rough, some countries data, like Germany, is not available. Caution of course. But to me, despite the roughness of the data it suggests to me the UK is keeping pace with the issue.

Oh I see Dohnut has returned!!😋

Nah, bollocks remains bollocks and doesn't deviate from bollocks, especially when Redline writes it. Then it's total bollocks.

Just to remind you all. I was not banned from this forum. Just wasn’t prepared to use the I’d amusingly given me by the mods. But could have. So I now have a new one.

I’ve also decided to avoid politics as much as possible given that anyone like me who has different opinions is not tolerated by the herd. No need anyway. My views on Corbyn and the state of the Labour Party have been vindicated and then some by the electorate so I need say no more.

Anyway, getting back to topic.

Here in Aus I’ve just listened to an expert putting an argument for non-isolation. Let people catch it and get over it. The argument being it is less damaging to the economy and the virus burns itself out quickly. The down side being huge health services impacts and likely increased deaths. The current lock down scenario though flattening the curve means this situation will be protracted for up to 18 months but fewer people will die and there won’t be much of an economy left to save. He did say perhaps a third opinion with short shut downs followed by back to normal, the idea being mini-spikes that are manageable with the economy able to limp along.

Also suggesting a likely surge again in China now things are relaxed. Journalists have been kicked out apparently, sounds like a cover up to me.

Yep, you flounced after being called out for your horrible views- something about foodbanks wasnt it? Most views are tolerated and challenged here.

Back to the topic- So would you prioritise the economy above lives?

That economy v lives conundrum in times of social stress has been a constant consideration. There was an article in The Graun yesterday about past instances where the British Govt has given preference to the former. And got away with it, so you could say they called it right.

Not going to bite other than to say my views on food banks are very much main stream and it was a topic I researched.

Nor will I be enticed into a economy vs lives debate as they are very closely linked in a complex web.

And no decent person would post with the I’d I was given, a name that says more about the mods than me.

Let it rest.

Not getting involved in politics, despite nearly all his contributions under this alias account being on the Tory watch thread defending the tories and on this thread, defending the tories.

Still as full of sh*t as ever 😂

To be fair, a thoroughly f*cked economy could devastate more lives than the virus alone. There isn't a simple solution to this.

I've already told you all on sunday that it's going to happen. My mate sent me earlier a picture of a long line of army trucks going down the road.

Spitalfields has been closed today and southend airport closed on Friday for 1 month.

Here it is, in case you have forgotten viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2600

So you basically say that food banks were necessary because of the 'mess' the Tories inherited, they're very well run nowadays and anyway they wouldnt be needed if overweight people just didnt consume so much. And you also backed senile Sids view of the users of foodbanks having a right old giggle.

Don't know if it's fake (for now my instinct is that it is fake), but the kids just showed me photos circulating on their social media of troops allegedly being deployed in Clapham.

When did we all wake up in this sh*t sci-fi thriller?
