Re: Carl Fletcher Appointed
Bit of a marmite appointment this one. The most important thing is that we all get behind the new Manager whilst he implements the Club's new footballin' rules. This Board's owners are looking to take both it and the Football Club to a new level over the next 3 years or so and this appointment fits nicely with their strategy. No transparency yet on the ongoing remuneration for both Fltch and Caca but this will no doubt feature in next year"s accounts, I await Doughie's assessment with interest. Good luck Fletch and Caca, not that you'll need it, some have greatness thrust upon them.

Re: Carl Fletcher Appointed
"Why wasn’t he announced before Saturday’s game against Walsall?"
Because he was not offered the job before the Walsall game. Kent flew over late last week and was part of the final interviews.
There is always an up and coming game and I'm sure that based on seeing a 90 minute performance in the flesh he will start to make adaptations for the Plymouth game. A bit of poetry really; him taking charge of his first game against his last club.....

Never surprises me when I see the effort some people will make just to have a dig at our new manager/HC.RedO wrote: ↑Wed Oct 16, 2019 9:19 pm A lot is being made of his current role as loan manager. The contacts he will have as a result of this etc
Just checked Bournemouth out on soccerbase to see who he is currently managing. It’s looking good if we want to tap up Eastleigh or Weymouth for one of their players.

We all know his previous job and we all know that when Ling spoke to those that know him, they are only going to be able to talk about what a top bloke he is and not his ability to manage. And we all know every manager got a shot at some point and for every Dean Smith there’s probably half a dozen no longer in the game.
We all know this stuf.
What we don’t know is how well he will perform as Orient Head Coach. So let’s get behind the bloke, stop, all this bickering and move on. We may well be pleasantly surprised.

The world and his dog knew he was getting the job on Monday. They should have had it sewn up by Saturday and brought him on the pitch before the game or at half time. He could have had a full week with the players but no, he’s travelling to Grimsby to sit in the stand, then travelling to Plymouth for his first game and by the time they get back, there’s a home game 2 days after that. It’s incredibly short sighted.LittleMate wrote: ↑Thu Oct 17, 2019 9:46 am "Why wasn’t he announced before Saturday’s game against Walsall?"

Re: Carl Fletcher Appointed
There isn't though. Most teams lose games. We have just been promoted, have some exciting young talent mixed with some experienced pros who are in good form. Most appointments happen because the team have been underachieving. In this sense, this appointment is quite different to most.bobo66 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 17, 2019 9:25 am"Nothing fundamentally wrong with the team" - Except perhaps that they are not very good.Red_Army wrote: ↑Wed Oct 16, 2019 10:59 pmExactly the point I've been making. We haven't made an appointment with the club in such a good position for a long time. There is nothing fundamentally wrong with the team, finances are stable, fans are on board. Add this to a comfortable league position, lack of pressure for promotion and relegation and one relegation spot, and it looks the ideal moment to take a bit of a gamble.Horient wrote: ↑Wed Oct 16, 2019 8:55 pm I can completely see the reason why people would be pessimistic with this appointment as it’s a crucial crucial season for the club in terms of not slipping back down into the National League. A safe option would have appeased people.
However, we have the safety net with only one team going down this season and we still have the man that’s kept us in a decent position so far this season on board backing Fletcher.
Remember Eddie Howe and his experience level when he took over Bournemouth...
If there was a season where this could pay off and we can take a gamble maybe this is the one.
I'm not saying Fletcher will definitely be a success, but I think the appointment makes some sense, and the conditions for this type of appointment are good.

Things don’t always run as smooth as you would like. Not everything goes exactly to plan. The timing of the announcement was not a big deal. The only minor issue was the setting of an unnecessary deadline therefore creating an expectation that was not met.BiggsyMalone wrote: ↑Thu Oct 17, 2019 9:53 amThe world and his dog knew he was getting the job on Monday. So he now gets the chance to meet the players but without disrupting Ross’s plans for Saturday, When Fletch will be able to watch the game carefully, without the pressure of the dug out, ready for the next game. Where’s the problem?

Re: Carl Fletcher Appointed
He’s already watched games, he knows which players he likes the look of and which ones he doesn’t. You have to give the new bloke the best chance and a full week coaching the players is better than dribs and drabs.dOh Nut wrote: ↑Thu Oct 17, 2019 10:02 amThings don’t always run as smooth as you would like. Re: Carl Fletcher Appointed
Why appoint a new manager then? If they’re all of a sudden putting points on the board, leave it as it is. I’ve realised that most Orient supporters will change their opinion on something/back the club out of blind loyalty rather than logic. Pathetic.UpminsterO wrote: ↑Thu Oct 17, 2019 10:06 amDon't agree with your logicBiggsyMalone wrote: ↑Thu Oct 17, 2019 9:53 amThe world and his dog knew he was getting the job on Monday. We have a team of three people as the interim group
They have just started putting few more points on the board
They have spoken as per CF interview
What is your beaf - what's wrong
It's called a transition from one group of three to the new group of four (one new head and the three others in support)

Re: Carl Fletcher Appointed
And of course he has watched training sessions, had access to medical reports, players contract details, been able to talk with the group. But hey ho, 90 minutes against Walsall is all he needs. Fair enough.BiggsyMalone wrote: ↑Thu Oct 17, 2019 10:05 amHe’s already watched games, he knows which players he likes the look of and which ones he doesn’t. In reality he is with us for nearly 2 years, I’ll say that again, nearly 2 years, so a couple of days is not going to make any sort of difference, especially as Ross has delivered 7 points from 9 so we are hardly in panic mode. A structured start is fine, and right.

Re: Carl Fletcher Appointed
I back the appointment because I think it makes some sense in terms of timings and the circumstances. If we appointed someone wholly unsuitable, or someone with who I had a personal issue like Terry, then I would be critical.BiggsyMalone wrote: ↑Thu Oct 17, 2019 12:03 pmWhy appoint a new manager then? I quite like that we have taken a bit of a punt in a low pressure situation. It is more interesting than appointing a stale old has been just because they 'know the league'.
