Don’t think he was weak. Pretty brave to consistently anger a home crowd. But seriously, throughout the league levels there’s a real problem with refereeing. Issues with consistency, pettiness and at the same time willingness to let too much slide.
Something needs to be done to get ex players to take up refereeing when they retire.
Currently, pretty much all refs take up refereeing because they can’t play. We need to widen the pool.

Lots of ways needed to improve the situation, proper performance reviews, independent oversight, consequences for poor performances, widening the pool of refs etc. It’s too much of a closed shop that protects its own currently.

But if you have people who, as much as they love the game, just don’t understand it, whatever else is in place is irrelevant.
As soon as todays refs let Brown off with a talking to when he brought down one of their players - a blatant yellow all day long - I knew he wasn’t up to it.

Just remembered the time Sweeney was being fouled by 3 of their players, then just as he managed to break free of the last man and launch a counter attack, the clown decided to blow up for the free kick.

Don’t disagree with what you say, just don’t see ex-players as the panacea. It’s institution incompetence.
And yeah that was one of many ridiculous decisions he made, just felt none of them really stood out in a season of refereeing mistakes

Why has no one mentioned that ref yet?
Because we want to assess our (non) performance first, then slag off the guy with the whistle. The ref was too weak in many departments.
I didn’t think the ref was too bad. He could easily have sent Simpson off for a second yellow. Apart from not awarding a couple of extra minutes at the end I don’t think we have much to complain about. We have had much worse this season.

After Stockport and Brum, the ref was inconsequential today.

Disagree.
Northampton were allowed to completely manage the game. They got away with constant tugging, shirt pulling, holding at levels I have never seen before. Their time wasting stopped any momentum building up and was not added back on at the end of the game. He was as weak a ref as they come.
(Not a criticism of Northampton at all, fair play to them for getting away with it).

I think we have talked about it before but the marking at corners has become ridiculous. Simpson with his back to the ball blocking and pulling his opponent. It’s a penalty.
I’m not meaning to single out Simpson. They all do it but it really does need to be addressed.
In relation to the ref, he was no worse than any other we have had.

We've seriously f-cked it up, Can't believe how poo poo we've become.
Fatigued and our whole first choice defence missing . All the damage is done and our season is over now so best start preparing for next season .
We have defenders in Cooper & Simpson who left Championship clubs before coming to us. Fatigue my arse

Cooper and Simpson are not championship defenders.

Brown and Pratley looked knackered yesterday which I why we had no control. Unfortunately their replacements were awful.

81 aerial duels in the game is the story, not the ref.
