We’re talking about a player who has had a season in league two and was decent for just over half a season in league one. It’s natural to overvalue your own assets.

If orient bought a player for half a mil with the same cv you’d think king had gone mad

That's the difference, he wasn't ready for what we needed hence why our midfield was absolutely useless under KJ. Remember the futility of starting Kyprianou, Young and Coleman / Brown? What player he ended up 2 years down the line doesn't matter, was more important we had players to win L2 promotion when we did.
Yes selling Hector enabled Os to buy Moncur who if last season is anything to go by, was a one season wonder and unless he gets himself match fit, he will just be an expensive option to come off the bench and on his wages, hard to move on to another club, a financial liability in fact. If we had kept Hector it would not have stopped us from having El Miz on loan as most of his wages were I guess paid for by Ipswich. According to this forum, El Miz is now available for £350,000 whereas Hector's value is reputably way over the One million pounds mark.

Seems like you think that Leyton Orient cannot afford to waste the time and money on bringing our young players into the first team and thus aiding their development, eg such as in the case of Hector. Perhaps you would prefer to scrap the youth team altogether and instead use the money spent to bring in players who are already the finished article while also making use of the cheap option of loan players ?

Exactly that, would dump the academy tomorrow and get more of the 21+ players like what we're doing with Galbraith, O'Neill etc who are first team ready with potential to improve further.

We are signing Steve ketteridge on loan for a year. Only 64 but apparently is good at passing back to the keeper. Well once we sign a keeper.... Maybe Shilton on loan ...

Yes I know that but like many other Os supporters, he thinks that it would be more cost effective to as he states ''Exactly that, would dump the academy tomorrow and get more of the 21+ players like what we're doing with Galbraith, O'Neill etc who are first team ready with potential to improve further.''

Yes I understand your views and opinion but you cannot hold a grudge against the young players like Ruel and Hector who come via the Os youth teams into the first team. The owners think it is a community club thus like to offer the chance of professional football training to local youngsters, thus creating interest in the Leyton Orient football club. Much the same case applies to running the women's football team and offering football training to women and girls, its all about promoting Leyton Orient as a local community football team.

The academy has nothing to do with our community aims. They don’t care where the boys come from. It’s about £s. And currently, the owners think it’s worthwhile to keep running with it. They have the numbers and the forecasts so have to trust them on this.

I didn’t like the decision to sell Hector but understand it. I’d like to think now we’re a L1 side, things have changed. I’ll guess we’ll see what happens with Obeiro in the next year or three and whether they have.

Sometimes I think we forget where we are in the scheme of things. We probably were "little" Leyton Orient but having (a) been promoted and (b) proven ourselves in developing players our general stature has gone up significantly. We want to be like Peterborough - but so does every other club who have seen them hold out for good prices. However they are quite unique in this respect and its almost certainly because McAntony has huge cohonas. He plays hard ball with players, agents and other clubs. He's firm but is equally handed. If we want to emulate them then we have to start offering new contracts to aspiring players now and be prepared to put them up for sale if they don't sign. Its not such an easy thing to do at most clubs - far easier said than done. If clubs let it drift, there is then a power shift to the player. To break the cycle this club must make a stand - but it could start with putting one of our most valuable assets up for sale. BTW this policy applies to Dan Agyei too - as he's in the last year of his deal. Sign or sell...

Peterborough tend to pay fairly substantial transfer fees for the best in the leagues below them too, something we have never really done in the past, certainly not to any great success.

True Adz,

They take a punt on players showing high promise. National League Player of the Year, Chris Conn-Clarke, being the latest on a 3 year deal with an option for a 4th.
