Better tell Richie
Richie clearly has a different take and wants centre halves that can play football. He treated that as a priority over their ability to defend - consistently selecting Turns and Mccarthorse over Thompson and Ogie proves that.
I can see the reasoning behind that last season, when we were having so much of the ball. And no one can say he was wrong, given where we ended up. But I'm expecting this season to be entirely different.

RW not happy with performance today.
He mentioned in his interview
CB is already a done deal, he gets back from USA
tomorrow, so that’s Ed Turns done
Then he said we need a LW & some pace up front, so also a No.9 coming in.
So incoming 3 new players.

Ed Turns is a done loan deal. Not sure the club know who they can sign for the other positions. The club get over £700 k from the EFL for being in L1 surely some of that can go towards a decent winger and CF

Harsh, as I watched the whole game, they are just 2 clips, and yes was unlucky for the 1st goal, and for the 2nd, he was not strong enough, but let’s remember he’s a young kid learning his trade, playing against Newcastle who finished 4th in Prem, Turns has 1 season in men’s football under his belt playing for us in L2, and is not a Prem player yet, but as a player this experience he is getting in
, will only make him a better player, and will hopefully benefit us, if/when he joins us on season loan this season.
If he does come here, he will get knocked all over the place in L1 and cost us a barrel load of goals. From a defensive perspective, I would rather have Shad Ogie back there, no question.
Can play football out from the back nicely though, so it's not all bad.
Div 2 more physical than Div 1. Turns will be fine. You talk nonsence btw

Each league is a step up in both physicality and pace. It still baffles me that people don't realise this.
Your 'average' Premier League player is infinitely stronger and quicker than your 'average' L2 player, as demonstrated by Turns getting beat for strength and speed multiple times in his 50 minutes playing time against Brentford and Newcastle.

When was the last time you regularly watched league 1 football?

Last season's play off games.
Regardless, it should be obvious to everyone that as you step up, as well as being technically better, the players are better athletes and stronger amd faster as a result.

Which aren’t a representation of league 1 football. Thanks for clarifying.

But they were (and in most cases still are) literally L1 football teams.

If Turns is joining on another season long loan, why did Brighton take him to America when we need him here, risking injury etc

Squad game most teams are rolling two full teams out there, good experience for him, he has hasn't played for them for six months so in theory in that team may have progressed massively etc
Loads of Premier League teams will send players on loan now or get rid, West Ham did it at soon as they got back from Perth, sent Potts on loan

RW said that the defender he wanted is returning with his club today from a tour of America. That applies to Brighton. Paperwork has been signed for a year loan. Will be joining us early next week. That’s good enough for me.

If the agreement was in place for season loan before Brightons USA tour, not sure why we needed Turns for Pre-season, to play against Ebbsfleet/Chelmsford, Daggers & Colchester verses playing for Brighton in
v Prem league opposition in Brentford, Chelsea, Fulham, A.Villa & Newcastle.
The best option for everyone was the one taken, to let Turns get the experience he has gained on
tour rather than playing a few mins and being involved in our poor excuse of a pre-season.
We know what Turns can do, he knows the players, so it was a No brainer.
We are getting a player who will be absolutely buzzing and cloud 9 after he returns from USA
with Brighton.

A pre-season playing with better players/coaches and playing against better players will be more beneficial to him than playing against Ebbsfleet and D&R.
He knows the team and the system, won’t take him long to settle in

Um, did you not see the last game? He looked utterly dejected after giving away the second goal.
If this loan does happen, which does sound as if it's the case, I'm hoping the experience hasn't knocked his confidence.

I watched the whole game, and you obviously didn’t, as you are only picking up on what you have watched on the highlights, the rest of the game he did well.
This tour v Premiership players will only make Turns stronger, which we will reap the benefits this season.
I shouldn’t think playing for Brighton v Premiership players in USA
has knocked Turns confidence, i would say the opposite.
What would have knocked his confidence, was playing for us yesterday at Colchester, not playing for Brighton v Newcastle.

Sounds like a perfect match if Ed is seen as a good prospect by Brighton but not yet ready. Where better than a season in EFL1 with a well run club who want to play in the modern way?

Totally agreed that, normally, playing alongside and against better players will make someone a better player.
But - from the highlights I saw - he looked so far out of his depth, it wouldn't have been beneficial. He's cost them 3 goals in 50 minutes of football, and if it wasn't for some poor finishing and a bit of luck on his part, that could have been 5 or 6.
Taking him along on the tour for the experience was a good idea, but I don't think Brighton have done him any favours by giving him as much game time as they did.
