I don’t believe for one moment anyone is giving
him grief for leaving for the money in any walk
of life we’d all do the same ..
I also don’t think anything is wrong with hanging
out til the end of his contact to see what’s next him and his family..
But to say “ I felt I was just away on loan for the
past two seasons “ shows just a distant lack on a
on a club who took a chance on someone’s whose
career was maybe going nowhere fast ..
By all means move on but at least show your previous employers and fans a small piece of respect ..
You say 'we took a chance'
but what we really did
was get lucky in being able to employ
a top end L1/Championship player with an injury record
who otherwise wouldn't have been anywhere near L2.
The arrangement suited both parties perfectly at the time.
Our whiny fans need to get over zemselves.

If we gave him a 3 yr contract and he got crocked a month into the new season, we would be stuffed. To QPR it would just be a nuisance.
Good luck to him, the guy was a joy to watch in full flow, but , like everyone, he can be replaced.
this is a good observation. The length of contract likely to be a decisive factor - I don't think Orient have ever offered 3 years under the new regime have they? And you'd certainly be reluctant to do so for someone with Smyth's injury record. I don't think there was much in the salary offers - it was very toppy for us, and quite cheap for them.

Only 19 of his 202 league appearances have been at Championship level, and he wasn't a success when he was there before, so I think the jury is still out.

I believe George Moncur was given a three year contract

Correct, George got a 3 year deal, think he’s the only one to have had that under the new regime.

Paul Smyth involved in first preseason friendly against Sparta Prague, co-commentator! Duke-Mckenna started and Kelman came on as a sub. They lost 3-0. QPR fans not impressed.

Perhaps he'll get loaned out again like he was for the last two seasons!

Genuinely don’t think I’d take him back after them comments. Maybe that’s ludicrous, but his comments certainly left a bad taste! Whilst he was an exceptional player for us in league 2, far from irreplaceable, hopefully in Agyei we already have a competent replacement.

Don’t think Wellens was to impressed with him or his family (I may be wrong?) but no player is bigger than the club. When one door shuts another opens. When we have lost players in the past we have always found replacements. We Lost Laurie Cunningham and was replaced by John Chiedozie, Think we lost Dean Smith and managed to get Joe Dolan🤔I’ll get my coat LOL🙈

Yeah Agyei is a good replacement for Smyth plus I think he isn’t as injury prone .

His comments were flippant, and ill-advised certainly. Albeit I guess he's just trying to ingratiate himself with the QPR fanbase, ultimately, he could do that on the pitch.

He's not irreplacable, is often injured, and as we saw at times can be stopped by "doubling up". That said, he always played like his heart was at Orient, and I would certainly for one take him back.
Actions mean more than words imo.

The comments seemed a bit disrespectful after he had just had a great season, won the league, got ten goals, was utter class, Wellens interview when they mentioned leaving players too he said something about Smyth, get the feeling towards the end of the season, Wellens, Smyth and the club something went a bit awry and it's ended in not tears but it should've been happiness rather than this odd situation

Also Orient gave Smyth the platform to earn that move back, he should be a little bit thankful

I’d like to think that Smyth was badly advised when he made those comments.
Personally I think he was one of the most exciting players, in recent years to have worn an O’s shirt.
Having said that it’s a big step up to the Championship but I wish him luck.

Everyone does realise that when a player joins a new team, they always say good things about the new club they're joining, right?

No one has criticised him for saying good things about QPR, they are indeed a bigger club. But you don't have to make derogatory remarks about your previous club such as "It feels like I've been unknown for two years".

Just watched his interview and not sure what all the fuss is about. It was very QPR focused and the "being on loan" remark makes sense because he moved to us to prove himself. Orient will always be special to him, but right now his focus, is rightly, solely on QPR

Don't agree with those defending Smyth.

His remarks were belittling to us, and I don't believe we meant anything to him

Great player for us, but he's spoiled it now

TBF we are Little Leyton Orient.

Whenever I moved between brokers in the City, even working in the same space, I didn't feel the need to eulogise about a former employer.
