I really cannot believe how people on here are filling up their pants just because we've had a bit of a wobble.

Bringing this thread back on topic…looks like there will be no signings before the Tranmere game on Saturday and probably no signings before the window closes.
I wonder if people would be less disappointed if the owners were more honest about these things and just said, on Jan 1st “look, we’re content with going up, winning the league will be nice but as long as we are promoted that’s all we care about. We won’t be signing anyone in Jan unless we absolutely have to, and even then it will be loans and freebies”
I feel like as fans we receive mixed messages about January transfers. At the start of the window the communications we were getting were very much of the “we’re going to bring some lads in” nature. Skip ahead to Richie’s interview after the Stevenage defeat and it’s all of a sudden “I don’t like signing players in Jan”.
Are we seriously all going along with the idea that the kid who has never played league football, the Rotherham reject and some bloke who hasn’t played competitive football for a year are the three main target Wellens had in mind?

You make good points. Those who have been on here a while, know I haver accused the owners, particularly Nigel Travis, of a large amount of bullshit. He gives the impression on various occasions that he is a progressive owner, but its mainly spin, because, still,
most acquisitions are on the cheap .
As Ive already said in other posts, I cant believe Wellens actually wanted an untested kid, a player from Rotherham whose hardly played this season , and a former injured player that hasnt played for almost a year, as his targets.
I believe Ling is the top 'player recruiter' in this club, and he is fully into Travis's ethos, of acquiring on the cheap.
Its still possible, new players will come here, but they will be loanees from Premier League clubs, like young Wareham

Heading into the January window, I don't think anybody was expecting this squad would need reinforcements at centre back. It was arguably the deepest position on the squad. But then in the span of one match-- Happe and Ogie are lost with long-term injuries, and Beckles compounds the problem with a 3-game suspension.
Aren't many teams, if at all, that can withstand the loss of their top 3 centre backs, and thus, the recruitment strategy had to quickly pivot away from the strikers/midfielders that were probably originally being targeted to fill the holes on our back line. In the January window, you're either going to have to pay up to pry a starting-calibre player loose from a peer club in your league, take a chance on a younger player from leagues below, or gamble on guys who are back-ups in higher leagues.
For reasons we are not privy to, we have not opted to go the proven player route. Perhaps it's a budget issue. Perhaps it's not finding the right fit and willing parties. Perhaps the board dithered too much. We don't really know.
Based on RW's comments post-Stevenage, it doesn't seem like any further players are incoming. I suspect that the window might have looked quite different had the defence not gotten decimated.
