Exactly what I’ve said twice. Just for you I’ll say it three times. Addicts need help and compassion. The dealers are the ones Who need sorting, the peddlers of death for money. But, give them a chance to change, if they don’t then treat them the same way they treat the addicts, with contempt plus a long prison sentence. Dealers are scum profiting from the suffering of others. The addicts are the victims.
This doesn’t really fit with your world views - people are responsible for their own choices/ should take personal responsibility for their decisions etc.

A friend of mine's grandfather was briefly an executioner's assistant in the late 1940's. Convinced him that the death penalty solved nothing.
Oh and the job involves much more than pulling a lever - most of it extraordinarily unpleasant.

I believe Pierrepoint was continually using this argument as he cajoled the usually staggering and sh*t scared condemned into standing still on a trap door. I'm sure this was a warming last thought as they plunged into oblivion.

At a time when the country is heading for bankruptcy, we've now got to spend likely millions (over 52 years of his term) of taxpayers' money keeping this loon alive and in enforced boredom/punishment..
This doesn't strike me as good value for money.
"It's for rehabilitation", the bed-wetters will cry.
There's no rehabilitation for the victims, so why does the killer get the opportunity. Those millions could be put to better use imo.

As per Assisted Deaths the rules and governance would be a nightmare, but, yes, the death penalty can be justified in some circumstances.
