No I’m not missing your point, I’m choosing not to get involved in some spurious discussion that is intended to simply dig at the medical profession for reasons known only to you. I guess you have some personal axe to grind.
I prefer to differentiate between legally prescribed, well tested and manufactured drugs prescribed by professional people for medical reasons, despite all drugs having potential side effects and scumbag dealers peddling sh*t product for personal profit irrespective of the carnage it creates.
at least you got your username correct I’ll give you that one

Re: Death Penalty
This doesn’t really fit with your world views - people are responsible for their own choices/ should take personal responsibility for their decisions etc.dOh Nut wrote: ↑Mon Jul 08, 2019 8:47 pmExactly what I’ve said twice. Just for you I’ll say it three times. Addicts need help and compassion. The dealers are the ones Who need sorting, the peddlers of death for money. But, give them a chance to change, if they don’t then treat them the same way they treat the addicts, with contempt plus a long prison sentence. Dealers are scum profiting from the suffering of others. The addicts are the victims.Disoriented wrote: ↑Mon Jul 08, 2019 8:41 pmThey need compassion and a helping hand not to be beaten with a societal stick.dOh Nut wrote: ↑Mon Jul 08, 2019 8:30 pm
I think you’re right. Perhaps after a smack on the wrist and a warning they should be given the chance to mend their ways. Those that do, great, we can forgive them for countless ruined lives. Should they repeat offend, then lock them away for a long time. Decent compromise.
You are a funny one.

Re: Death Penalty
A friend of mine's grandfather was briefly an executioner's assistant in the late 1940's. Convinced him that the death penalty solved nothing.
Oh and the job involves much more than pulling a lever - most of it extraordinarily unpleasant.

Yes. I'm reliably informed that getting the condemned from cell to noose could also be problematic.Proposition Joe wrote: ↑Tue Jul 09, 2019 9:48 am Would assume there's an element of cleaning up afterwards?

Were they not convinced that the cost of their incarceration was too great a burden on the public purse and therefore they should go willingly?

Re: Death Penalty
I believe Pierrepoint was continually using this argument as he cajoled the usually staggering and sh*t scared condemned into standing still on a trap door. I'm sure this was a warming last thought as they plunged into oblivion.Proposition Joe wrote: ↑Tue Jul 09, 2019 1:06 pm Were they not convinced that the cost of their incarceration was too great a burden on the public purse and therefore they should go willingly?

Re: Death Penalty
At a time when the country is heading for bankruptcy, we've now got to spend likely millions (over 52 years of his term) of taxpayers' money keeping this loon alive and in enforced boredom/punishment..
This doesn't strike me as good value for money.
"It's for rehabilitation", the bed-wetters will cry.
There's no rehabilitation for the victims, so why does the killer get the opportunity. Those millions could be put to better use imo.

Re: Death Penalty
I doubt in this case even the bed wetters think there is any chance of rehabilitation.
Can you show your workings for the millions that could be put to better use. How many millions is it?

Re: Death Penalty
As per Assisted Deaths the rules and governance would be a nightmare, but, yes, the death penalty can be justified in some circumstances.
