Re: Coronavirus
Saw this earlier, but can understand why South Africa are keen to downplay the risk. More evidence/research is needed.Apple Wumble wrote: ↑Sun Nov 28, 2021 5:13 pmAny links?George wrote: ↑Sun Nov 28, 2021 4:08 pm The latest news from South African doctors who have treated the O variant patients is that they are only suffering mild symptoms and not as troublesome as the D variant. It is still early but it doesn’t look as threatening as first feared so any new measures may be short lived.
Acting swiftly is what most people complained about not happening previously so should be some praise given for that at least.
It should be remembered that , despite the media doing their utmost to scare the living daylights out of us , it is currently only a variant of concern and with no evidence that it will cause more difficulties than the D variant.
There is still room for optimism.
IF that’s true and it’s a big if, it would probably be a good thing. Being more transmissible, from early reports, lots of people would get it but if it was more mild then it wouldn’t be as dangerous but would give people natural immunity (assume to other variants too) for a time. We’ll see.

Re: Coronavirus
How sad calling for people to be banned from the conversation and board because they see it different. Media has so much to answer for. Painful

The only way out of this is if a new strain becomes dominant that is not too harmful. Fingers crossed.

Re: Coronavirus
The people who 'see it different' are posting rubbish that could lead to ill health for people or even death. I reckon that warrants a ban.
I pity them for being duped and not able to follow the facts, believing crap from social media over science.

I always assumed that when viruses mutate they become weaker but I’m not sure why I think that. Still, let’s hope it’s the case.Prestige Worldwide wrote: ↑Sun Nov 28, 2021 5:30 pm The only way out of this is if a new strain becomes dominant that is not too harmful. Fingers crossed.

Omicron symptoms are "relatively mild and include intense fatigue and a high pulse rate."

Re: Coronavirus
Think the idea is that not killing the host means a virus has a greater chance of spreading so that favours milder strains, but because of how long covid is transmittable before displaying symptoms, this is less of an evolutionary advantage for covid.Apple Wumble wrote: ↑Sun Nov 28, 2021 6:12 pmI always assumed that when viruses mutate they become weaker but I’m not sure why I think that. mRNA vaccines can be updated in a matter of weeks so it won't be too long until there's a tailored shot for this. Pretty grim that we are likely to be in a cycle of annual or twice yearly shots against this for the foreseeable but better than the alternative of endless huge waves and lockdowns.

Couldn’t we just shut everything down - and I mean literally everything - for like 2 weeks and just get this over and done with?

Re: Coronavirus
As in, could we coordinate across every nation on Earth that every person (and every possible animal that may host and transmit the virus) isolates for two weeks so that all virus particles die out?Ronnie Hotdogs wrote: ↑Mon Nov 29, 2021 10:44 am Couldn’t we just shut everything down - and I mean literally everything - for like 2 weeks and just get this over and done with?
Is that what you're actually suggesting?

Re: Coronavirus
I have read an answer to that suggestion before, even if it were possible(its not) it wouldnt work because the virus would still be present in immuno compromised persons.

Yes, exactly that. Stock up on snacks, sit indoors watching Netflix for 2 weeks, job done.Dunners wrote: ↑Mon Nov 29, 2021 10:56 amAs in, could we coordinate across every nation on Earth that every person (and every possible animal that may host and transmit the virus) isolates for two weeks so that all virus particles die out?Ronnie Hotdogs wrote: ↑Mon Nov 29, 2021 10:44 am Couldn’t we just shut everything down - and I mean literally everything - for like 2 weeks and just get this over and done with?

To be fair, I hadn’t considered the animals, so can see where this plan would fall down.

Re: Coronavirus
Just had my Booster at the Paisley Jabbers Centre. They were offering a 2 for 1 which sounded like a right bargain so I got the flu jab too.
God knows what multitude of other diseases I have exposed my self to by going to Paisley.

It was the COVID-19 mRNA Vaccine BNT162b2 concentrate for solution for injection by Pfizer
I think the flu jab was the NHS's own Brand.
