Fair enough that if you arent vaccinated to prove you're not carrying a deadly virus before coming to work imo.

Employees will not necessarily have to present proof of their vaccination status and will be allowed to sign a statement saying they are vaccinated and that they understand there could be criminal penalties for lying.

I get it in today’s context but it really makes things blurry down the line. What other medical history will be required going forward just to earn a living? Do you expect people carrying HIV to make sure they declare it to their boss? Or someone who missed their TB jab when they were 12? Hpv can be spread and cause someone cervical cancer, should that be declared before a team photo in the pub?

I'll be surprised if there isn't a legal challenge along the way somewhere.
NHS workers sign a contract, and if there's nothing about being vaccinated in that contact, I can't see how someone can be sacked for not having vaccines.
It's a very dangerous road the government of this and other countries are taking us down here.
It gives authorities control over us, in a way that had never happened before in democracies.

The already under staffed care sector will be hit even harder after midnight when care staff have to be vaccinated or lose their jobs.

It's ridiculous that they are working with the most vulnerable without being fully vaccinated.

Maybe, but is this the right way to solve this.

Perhaps there is a bit about taking basic steps with your own health so as not to infect and kill the customers.

Yes, it is. The time for pandering to these dimwits is over. It will probably cause problems in the short-term for the sector, but that will sort itself out eventually. It also provides those that are not selfish arseholes an even greater opportunity to unionise and negotiate better terms.

And the message board had been a place of such whimsical and high-spirited optimism so far today before you came along with this negativity.

Just need one of the channel migrants to test positive for the new variant and we'll come full circle

I've now spent most of the afternoon so far reading up on B.1.1.529 instead of boarding or working, FFS.

The good news is that variants pop up all the time but then sink back down into obscurity. Hopefully this will be one of those. Because the bad news is, if it doesn't, this could be even more transmissible than Delta and evade both vaccine and natural immunity. And the early signs are not good.

This is very bad news. I was just getting used to the over 4,000 monthly deaths we have at present.
